Bent the metal bracket slightly in and was able to attach the motor differently. Attached to the lock hinge in a similar way, as it seems to be the best. Allows for some adjustment as the lock/unlock positions should not be at the full extensions, otherwise, it will pull it slightly back or out, once power is off. Still need to run wires, but using these cheap motors with existing mechanism was a brilliant idea. Added my own plug and tested with a 9V battery.Hi everyone interested to update XL trim to power lock tailgate.
I used parts from Amazon (see pictures) not expensive at all.
Connected to these blue and yellow wires from the main connector (as shown in the discussion).
Attached the actuator to the door frame and voila.
Have my tailgate door open and close with my remote.
