Also interested in this and adding spotlights to the top of the cab 🤭😇
Indeed. Using a spotlight makes road hunting from your vehicle 10 times easier. Can you imagine being one of the suckers walking around the forest in the dark trying to spot game animals at night?

We wander every night tracking deer. The sound doesn't bother them, and the backup beeping makes them look but not run or anything.

In my opinion, I don't think the mandated hybrid sounds will make any difference. I know from experience, most pedestrians either have earbuds in, headphones on or are looking at their cellphones, oblivious to their surroundings. Very few pedestrians will actually notice the hybrid noise and not walk into the path of the vehicle.

I initially thought about disconnecting mine. The noise isn't that objectionable. Now, I leave it plugged in for liability reasons.

You should totally contact the NHTSA and let them know. They may not know this new development "Greg's experience" and they may just scrap the whole sound emittance idea entirely.

If there's anyone left at the NHTSA, that is.

I've long wanted to silence the backup warning cowbell when parking in my driveway late at night. My plan was to install a relay that would switch in a resistor in place of the speaker (so no fault would be detected) and the relay would be operated by self-resetting switched accessory power. I haven't done it yet, partly because I wanted to plug into the harness at the speaker (cleanest patch) but the speaker is in a pretty inaccessible location in front of the LF wheel well. Lotsa work there, so not on my "must-do-ASAP" list of jobs...

How many % of cops are going to think, “hmm the first year of maverick was 2022 and the EV sound law went into effect in April 2021, which implies all mavericks have the sound emission device and he’s going slightly less than the mandated 19 mph (30 kph) and I don’t hear the electronic sound……. and that pisses me off, so I’m going to pull him over and ticket him”?
Unless your state or locality has codified similar laws, local cops aren't broadly enforcing FMVSS regulations.

You probably won't get a ticket over disabling the speaker, but that's not the point.
In regular driving (not OP's "deer hunting"), this is a legitimate matter of safety and common decency.

We have lived our entire lives with the expectation that cars make sound. If pedestrians don't hear a car approaching, then they act like the car isn't there -- they might not look closely before crossing the street -- and that doesn't mean they deserve to get run down. It is actually scary when a nearly-silent vehicle sneaks up on you.

Do you guys also drive everywhere with your high beams on? Are turn signals too loud? Does it take too long to wait your turn at a 4-way stop? Be better.

I've emailed back and forth with Megaohm Motorsports and they do share some interest in offering a "switchable" version.

I'm also a hunter (coyote and elk) and would VERY much like to be able to creep into a parking spot as quietly as possible. Having the ability to turn off "UFO mode" while hunting would be fantastic, but pulling my front bumper every time I want to switch back and forth is just too cumbersome. A dash switch (or even under hood switch) would be awesome.

If you're interested in a switchable option for the Maverick go to Megaohm Motorsport's website, hit contact and tell them you're interested too. Here, I'll make it easy for y'all - click here! ---> https://www.megaohmmotorsports.com/contact

I'm first, though!

Side note: My best friend is a disabled hunter. He's allowed to hunt AND SHOOT from the seat of his vehicle completely legally. Just because some feature doesn't fit YOU doesn't mean it doesn't fit other's needs.

I just heard a new F-150 Platimum edition backing up and it makes the same "Clank clanck clanck" noise in reverse as the Mavrick.

Also you can get the F-150 hybrid right now for the same price as gas only.

Gets you +20 additional horsepower and +60 lb-ft torque going with the FREE hybrid upgrade. Just learned of this on the build & price tool. They discount you the amount of the former hybrid upcharge.

The whole idea of trolls assuming they have the slightest clue what others drove previously with which engines & exhausts and when and where for which purposes is rich, as is their delusion that their opinion is somehow better than everyone else’s!

Some people just show up to shit on another person's sunny day. Ignore them, you don't owe them an explanation.

I speak from many years of experience in the outdoors, and using the vehicles necessary to get to those secluded spots where the deer and the antelope play, but maybe you hunt off of paved roads with parking lots. Cool.

Feel free to click my moniker and press the ignore button. Others surely have.

So Ima rain on your parade a bit. I own a pre 2021 Tesla. It doesn’t make any synthetic humming sound.

It’s only the people with moderate to severe hearing loss that can’t hear me creeping along in a parking lot under 5 mph. And by 10 mph virtually all people hear it, or they feel vibrations or feel air movement or something that alerts them. But they somehow know and they turn around and look to see what the possible hazard is.

And yeah, the first time an old person has a silent ev creep up on them, it can startle them. But then they learn that sound profile and it no longer startles them.

I’ve been driving my near silent EV for over 100k miles, so I have seen hundreds and hundreds of peoples’ responses to the sound. and to be honest, it is not nearly silent. I mean, the powertrain is nearly silent, but the movement is not. Rubber scrubbing the pavement, small pebbles stuck in tire treads, small pebbles on the pavement being kicked up and moved by the tires hitting them, and the sound of rushing wind.

Older EV’s have a distinct profile that 95% of the population can hear, so the real risk to pedestrians is quite low. And that explains why the government didn’t mandate this 1/3rd octave humming profile until after EV’s had been on the road for over a decade.
