I love the enthusiastic hate of some people. FMVSS are for manufacture and certification of a vehicle sold. Modifying them as such removes the manufacturer’s liability

My Tesla model Y only makes a sound when backing up. I wish my Maverick was that way.

My Prius doesn't even make a noise.

I'd just unplug it. It's under the front bumper IIRC.

The seatbelt menu is also mandated but no one gets up in arms about deleting it either.

Just plan ahead and don't back up.

I don't understand the correlation between an exterior warning sound on electric vehicle's that alerts pedestrians that you're approaching, either forward or reverse, to an interior only seat belt warning. 🤷‍♂️

For me personally I'm more concerned about innocent pedestrians getting hurt by nearly silent vehicles than idiots hurting themselves through not wearing seat belts and getting in serious crashes.

Please.
If you quote me. Please be so kind to include the whole quote without editing.
Thank you.
I had actually quoted you by mistake and thought I deleted it on my end apparently some cached version server side didn't go that far. I will remove the rest immediately.

In my opinion, I don't think the mandated hybrid sounds will make any difference. I know from experience, most pedestrians either have earbuds in, headphones on or are looking at their cellphones, oblivious to their surroundings. Very few pedestrians will actually notice the hybrid noise and not walk into the path of the vehicle.

I initially thought about disconnecting mine. The noise isn't that objectionable. Now, I leave it plugged in for liability reasons.

Don’t even get me started about the deaf guy who still owes me 9 payments for an incident

It’s no different than driving with a tail light or headlight out. The cop has the discretion to give you a warning or a ticket. If your EV or hybrid is pre-2021, they don’t even have probable cause to pull you over for silent running.

How many % of cops are going to think, “hmm the first year of maverick was 2022 and the EV sound law went into effect in April 2021, which implies all mavericks have the sound emission device and he’s going slightly less than the mandated 19 mph (30 kph) and I don’t hear the electronic sound……. and that pisses me off, so I’m going to pull him over and ticket him”?

And even if you did get ticketed, it would be a fix-it ticket, not a moving violation. Just unplug the bypass go to the DMV and challenge it saying the cop was wrong.
