👍 A tailgate damper is a nice convenience.
Not necessary, but sure is convenient, when your hands are full and you've only got a couple fingers to open the latch.
Yep Glen but there is a lot of adds that people put on their trucks that might not be necessary but a matter of preference, thanks for the thumbs up

I like mine and I highly recommend it.

Cue the drones, it's the lightest tailgate I've ever had. What do you need a damper on it for? In 150 years of driving,. I never needed any assist on my tailgate I have hands. If we don't see a need for one, nobody should, just a waste of YOUR money.
Same goes for glove compartment door dampers.
Convenience seem to be foreign to them.

I've been against it from day 1 and still don't have it, but posts like this are really swaying me, lol. Not to mention when the f'in' tailgate fell on the side of my knee when I thought it was latched. Looks like a very clean truck and install.

I'm wondering if I could fit the new tie down over the plastic Ford OEM tailgate liner. I do like the uniformity of both the original tie downs and I do use them. Without TA installed, I do have to be diligent and deliberate with opening and closing the tailgate, especially around children.

Tom, I think it would fit over the tailgate liner just fine, just remove the factory tiedown and use the original bolt, I added a black washer and bolted on.

I think the tailgate assist strut was the first thing I added. When I have full hands/arms, I can lift the gate latch with any particular finger and allow the gate to drop to open position slowly without me having to lower it there by hand. For you naysayers here - for a truck bed that gets USED, this utility is appreciated. And if it saves me from a heart attack (when I get older) from an accidental loud-as-hell BANG!!!, even better. It's cheap enough that it's worth every penny, IMO.

For those who choose to add one - if you would like to replace the tailgate tie down bracket that had to be removed to fit the assist strut, here's what I make and offer for sale:

Works well and clears the new strut and no issues with the cable. And made in the USA. I have a thread here in the For Sale forum.

Thanks for the mention Glen!

I added the tailgate strut as well. Then made a bracket. Looks & works great, and others asked if I'd make them one. Started making a few more here and there and I've come to enjoy the time in my workshop. Other tie-down options are available which work just fine. But this one is made by hand by a fellow Mav owner. It's solid and doesn't move. And it's made in the USA. :flag:

I see $20 plus $5 shipping.
Why are you buying two?
You only need one for the damper side.
Yup 20 bucks each, I just like to keep it with both the same on the tailgate, just a matter of preference Glen...your choice Sir. I am not buying, I already put the V rings on my truck as seen in the pics

Dan,
Sorry, I didn't realize you were going for symmetry. I get it.
Some members on the forum have questioned the 1000lb. rating based on 1 attachment screw versus the original tie down / bottle opener having 2 screws and being angled across the tailgate to better handle the stress.
I was trying to help with in my opinion better product, that's Made in America by one of our members vs overseas.
As you said your choice.👍
