Just bought one a few days ago for $10. Debating ordering another then returning as the first...

So when you guys install, the bottom nut is a PITA. Tighten down as much as you can while still turning it 90 degrees to engage. Also you'll need a T50 torx bit to remove the tailgate bolt, and lose one of the tailgate tie down /bottle openers.

I’d ordered one from Ford for $50, but haven’t opened the package yet.

I’ve now ordered this from Amazon, and will return the one from Ford.

$20 is worth the effort of returning the thing.

thanks. i just installed mine yesterday from Amazon.

Not sure if there are post that document how to install these successfully but the procedures that come with this are impossible to do with bare hands unless you have a grip of steel like GI Joe's Kung-Fu grip (look it up). Installing can be a pain in the butte but once accomplished these work great--second one I have installed.

Plastic putty applicator and flat-head screw-driver

First pre-tighten the screw to the base leaving enough room to insert into the tail-gate frame. that step alone requires a vice grip or similar given the lock-tite used/needed on the screw.

next use the plastic as a wedge to protect your paint while using the screw driver as leverage/a pivot to pry the base away from the tail-gate to keep pressure on the screw.

What are people doing with the space left by the original bottle opener/bracket? I remember a while back someone was making replacement ones that fit with the assist on here but last I looked he wasn't doing it anymore. Toss a D-ring on here instead?
