I plan on keeping USB cables there. For my wife and son as well.

Had to squeeze his happy ass in there. He was pretty chill about it though.

TBH my hope is that it will be something as easy as just fitting something like one of these into the cubby:

www.amazon.com/APPS2Car-Windshield-Industrial-Strength-Adjustable-Telescopic/dp/B07L3Q7Y4F

https://www.scosche.com/magicmount-dash-window-car-mount

But if something like that doesn't work or if I don't like how it looks then I will fabricate something for a clean look.

I'll definitely post here with my ideas once I actually have a Maverick. Unfortunately I don't know when that will be because I don't have one on order. I'm hoping to find one in stock from a local dealer within the next couple of months. But I don't need a Maverick right away, I just really want one as soon as I can find one!
Oh, followed your Amazon link and that phone holder looks like it would work nicely. Looks like you could set the holder back into the cubby far enough that only the magnetic disc is visible to line up the phone to cover the rest of the cubby. Thanks for the research.

I plan to make a black ABS plastic insert to mount phone on. When time permits I really want to remove the touch screen and see if it can be centered. Making a new bezel is not an issue.
One has to wonder if the Ford designers really wanted the screen to reach the whole width but only had the smaller screens in stock and thought, "What the hell". "Customers will just think we did that intentionally."

Sometimes I like to know how long my girlfriend is in the store or how long it takes to get somewhere ...I think a good bright stop watch would be a interesting thing to put there ? the more I think about it I might just figure a way to make a mount that would fit and look good maybe use velcro to hold it in ? Any thoughts from anyone ?

Glue a magnet to the back and get a magnetic phone holder from Amazon?

I hope someone comes up with some kind of pressure-fit device holder that will clamp itself into the cubby but be removable. When I'm on the road I'm going to want somewhere to mount my GPS but I don't want it to be permanent.

(BTW: I know I can use my phone mapping app, but I prefer the dedicated GPS. A discussion on why or why not to do that has already been had on another thread.)
I think having another GPS option other than the phone is smart. Cell service can be non-existent when you need it the most in a remote area. A satellite will rarely let you down.

I’ve been trying to think of a “useful” idea for the cubby for the longest time. I’ve seen a lot of odd ideas come up that seem pointless, to me at least.

I didn’t screen the entire forum — but has anyone suggested a secondary backup camera? It’s my understanding that when the tailgate is down for flexbed use, the factory camera will be rendered useless pointed at the ground. Maybe an aftermarket wireless camera could be placed on the back license plate and be used for these times. The screens I’ve seen are usually 5” so don’t know if you could get a clean flush look or not, prob have to resort to using one of the phone mounts mentioned on the forum.

I saw a wireless setup on Amazon that can sync two cameras to the single screen so you could technically do the idea above, and also put one on the front bumper area for parking in tight spaces/garage etc.

Thoughts?
Best use of that cubby eyesore I've seen yet. Here's one on Amazon that's only 4.3" wide.

This magnetic phone holder works for the cubby. You do have to cut the front piece off with a pair of scissors. It has a primer that is extremely strong. Don't get it on your hands.

I don't think there's any doubt that it was originally intended to be for a Sync 4 screen. I'm not sure whether the various electronic parts shortages resulted in the downgrade or the oversupply of Sync 3 hardware caused the downgrade, but if it allowed Ford to build this truck on the cheap by recycling parts, good for Ford.

You're explanation is the most likely scenario. I have a tendency to be cynical and sarcastic. I'm sure the Ford people had better plans for that part of the dash, but due to conditions as you described, opted for the best of a poor situation.
