I think the infotainment screen size is fine as-is, and Ford should work on getting reliable software in it. The side cubby has been useless so far for me, but Ford could do a better job in making it "hackable", to accept a small custom panel for switches or jacks. I would really like to see a RAM Mount socket or two (1/4" NC threaded insert) on the dash just above the screen. They would be cheap to add, inconspicuous and easily capped cosmetically when not in use. I'm a fan of dedicated GPS units that live in the vehicle. I don't want to screw around with my phone every time I get in the truck, and apps like Google Maps tend to need a constant data stream, burning thru air data quickly. For now, I have a block of wood with a weight on it in the dash tray to hold my RAM Mount.

A top-load cubby from Ford would have made more sense

Agreed, but Ford needs to center the screen. Most humans prefer symmetrical design.
Two even smaller cubby's? 😳

That's just crazy talk! ;)

Just so long as the physical buttons remain I'm good. Prefer the tactile feel when driving, without taking eyes off the road.
Completely agree. The screen is nice but buttons and knobs are best for managing things without taking the eyes off the road.

I don't care about a bigger screen, but the cubby is 100% useless.
Yup. I've had people ask me if I was too cheap to get the bigger screen for my Maverick. I just tell them they all have the same screen, and the useless space is there because it was designed to have a 10" screen, but Ford was too cheap to include it (which is true, early sketches showed a 10" screen.).

They just need to install the bigger screen and create a vitual cubby that you can place anywhere you want on the screen.

Insert your virtual "nik nack's" in the vitural cubby.

And for the rest of us who aren't cubby fixated, we can just toggle the virtual cubby off and enjoy our big screen in all it's glory.

Everyones happy! ;)
Careful, you are going to get a bunch of threads started about what people are going to virtually put in their virtually cubby.
me personally, I think the screen size is perfect, but like my 85 inch tv I got for Christmas that had to be replaced, when I put the 65 back up until the new 85 arrived, the 65 looked small. I am sure that is what it will be like as the screens get bigger. Remember when the 4 inch iPhone was ā€œbigā€?
oh, and I like my cubby šŸ™‚

I was just thinking trim surrounding the screen. Agree even smaller cubbies would be " bat shit crazy" 🤣
But then I could have 2 useless places to fill! Oh the possibilities!

With the spy photos of the next gen Maverick, it looks like Ford is getting rid of the beloved (and highly controversial dash cubby) in favor of a larger infotainment screen. I say we ban together and start a write in campaign to stop Ford from removing this awesome unique Maverick feature before it is too late.

Who is with me!
ā€Banā€ together? Doesn’t that mean get rid of it?

I love that space, but I haven’t figured out how to use it. Show me why it should be kept, please!

Haha, I would think you are correct in your thinking. Let’s ban it together. šŸ˜‰

The reason I like the cubby is because it could be used for pretty much anything! Some people use it for a gauge, you could put an analog clock there (and add some sophistication to your Maverick), fake switches, real switches, buttons, fake buttons, fake action figures, real action figures, the possibilities are endless! I am working on adding some buttons that will control my gate, my garage door, my bed lights, and one more for an unknown project. My cubby plug will also have 2 usb ports ran down to power at the fuse box because I hate the look of wires going down to the USB cables.

ford could really make it customizable by adding a USB port up there that actually has data from the computer. Then they could make a killing with accessories that plug into the usb port. They could program it to have all the vehicle data available (temps, pressures, speed, etc.) and then sell gauges and gauge packs that plug into the usb and display the data. Or, have a more expensive option that is basically a programmable lcd screen that you can choose different gauges and layouts.
Either way, they need 12 volt power up there to make it truly customizable. Or at least a plugged hole so I don’t have to drill.
