So after almost 10 months I figured I'd have a truck that was 100%. I had to imagine that Ford did whatever it takes to get trucks out for 2022 and by "whatever it takes" I was hoping it wasn't literally. I wanted to change my wheels out. And low and behold, corners were cut, well not corners but my spindles. Tops trimmed to mount the shocks and as you can see the really hacked the area to mount the tie-rod. Not real happy with my first ever Ford. Has anyone else had this issue? XL Hybrid 230 miles. Who can I contact at Ford? Dealer is aware of my issue.

I just googled a bunch of spindles and steering knuckles. None of them are painted on the machined edges.

Even so, they should have painted it after cutting. It's poor quality control by Ford. No other good explanation.

Poor quality control is when the drawing calls for it to be painted and it is not.
As far as we know this area was not designed to be painted.

Not being painted by design is normal and common.

Worst thing you can say (truthfully) is that you believe it should have been painted.

As already pointed out, mating painted surfaces can cause a weak or loose joint as the paint breaks down. The paint also can affect dimensional stability.

If you look hard enough you will find many unpainted metal surfaces on most vehicles.

I agree those surfaces should have been machined MUCH better AND painted. Truth be told, this is probably why everyone says to avoid the first production year of a new model vehicle. No manufacturer is immune from human failings when schedule must be met. I bought a 1982 Honda V45 motorcycle in its first year of production and it needed new camshafts within the first year (barely made it under warranty). I suspect the 2023 Maverick will have these areas cleaned up.

This is a nice recap. But i believe when you have to use the phrase: dimensional stability, weve gotten too deep into the weeds lol someone needs to close this thread. Nobodys trucks will explode as a result of this finding

How can you tell from that photo that the surface was machined poorly lol

I have been in the auto industry for 20+ years. The last 9 in aftermarket parts. I've never seen anything "shaved" like this, especially on a new car. My 2013 Audi and my 2017 and 2020 Chryslers never looked like this.
But if that's what Ford does then that's what they do. I've never owned a Ford so I guess I expect more. Surface rust on à week old part doesn't look good in my opinion

Went from aftermarket to Ford parts for 20+ years myself. This is very common. Not just Ford. Used cars from various other manufacturers do this as well.
