I get better than 23 overall. More like 26-27.

Yes, the 2.0 will lug down and transmit vibrations into the cab at certain speeds around 40 or so with the RPM's lugging down to around 1200. Fixed most of it with 91 octane gas.

Some like yourself say they have never experienced such a thing. Others, like myself say it is real and it happens. YMMV.

First time I have heard it called a "refined" ride, but it is smooth and rides much better than its price point so that is a win.
Yep, my 2023 can lug at lower speeds. I just chalk it up to the inefficient trans shift points. At least that's my belief.

Agreed. A good trans tune would do wonders. If I end up keeping the truck I may consider just that after the warranty expires.

It's now port and direct injection. This helps with the intake valve deposits.
It definitely helps keep the intake valves from getting carbon build up - and that is no small thing for consumers. But port injection is better at low engine speeds and direct injection is better at higher engine speeds. So combining them gives an engine the best of both. Toyota has been doing this for some time now and I'm glad Ford is catching up. Hopefully other manufacturers will start doing the same

Consumer Reports accuracy is not great. I’ve subscribed a few times over the years and I have seen many factual errors. As a subscriber, I looked for a way to report errors and I found none.

I’m not currently subscribed, but the most recent that I recall was that on their Maverick review they had the city and highway mileage reversed for the hybrid (showing the higher mileage figure for highway driving and lower for city).
MY 2020 Escape turbo 8 speed lugged when starting up a hill. Great gas mileage thou. I really liked the car a lot! The maverick Atkinson engine and the constant speed Transmission for me are a good match. I went to the dealer in regard to the lugging they fluffed me off I think it just needed the shit points adjusted. frank

I have no complaints with my 2024 Tremor 2.0 T. Good ride, no unwanted noises, accelerates nicely, decent gas mileage (low 20's in the city as much as low 30's on the interstates) and just fun to drive. Not a single problem after 10 months and 5000 miles. It was also great in the snow this past February.

Maybe it would help if enough actual 2025 EB Maverick owners respond to a poll on this & send the poll to CR?

CR certainly has a bias, they were praising 2017 Honda CRV since the 2012-16 generation was reliable, even while the 2017 newly turboed engine was having fuel contamination in the oil on excessively cold weather driving.

And as far as cabin noise they really need to give context. Loud compared to peers vehicle type/price segment is what matters - if a BMW X5 is quieter than a Maverick that is to be expected & should not be reported as "Maverick is loud". If Maverick is louder than a Ranger or Tacoma, that IS reportable news,

might be difficult for Maverick since there aren't any other unibody trucks except SC & Mav has gotta be louder cabin than SC for an extra $7k you gotta get something for that extra pile of money.

But I have definitely noticed the engine noise when driving higher rpm is louder through the back seat sheet metal than from the hood, at first I thought I was hearing another vehicle behind me, gotta insulate that at some point maybe a spray foam insulation can.

Not really bad to me, but I've also never owned luxury vehicles, it gets sorta loud climbing steep grades through West Virginia & smokey Mountains I-64 & route 19, but anyone whos tried those drives in a Prius it sounds like having a stack of old push mowers at full throttle under your hood.

We can't fix your "concern."

This is something I've noticed both with my 2025 xl hybrid & with 2016 & 2014 Honda CRVs - I swear some gas stations are getting alot of water in the gas tank or something, I have had way too many times all 3 vehicles running smooth & quiet as silk, then a little after filling up the tank start vibrating & running rough & loud - same day same load same driving conditions - then fill up again or top up the fuel & its like magic driving as smooth & quiet as if it was brand new.

For clarity, this does not always refer to actual fuel mileage (literally as @oysterville mentioned). It also should be taken as your experience could be somewhat different in reference to other things (like the lugging in this case also).

The design was changed from direct injection only, to port and direct injection to help reduce carbon build up in the valves.
What is the main cause carbon build up ? Not using top tier gas ?
If you have carbon build up, what are the symptoms and remedies ?

Here is a video that explains many of the answers you are seeking, and it jives with what I understand as the problem, it's cause and what can be done about carbon buildup...2025 Ecoboost Mavs have both direct injection and port injection.

In short, use top tier fuel (to help keep carbon deposits from building up), not junk/cheaper fuel for starters.

From what I learned from the oil geek, use TECHRON additive every 3000 miles-ish.

Hope this begins to answer your question sufficiently!

CR's annual testing budget runs well over $30 million, funded mostly by 6 million members who pay $30 to $59 a year to subscribe to the magazine or website. CR accepts no freebies from manufacturers; they buy every product they evaluate, to avoid any conflict of interest.
Yep, been a subscriber to CR for 30+ years. While I abhor their politics and "Karen" approach to several things, I find their product reviews to be the most accurate third party, independent data available. They have by far the most statistically representative data being published. CR's been quite accurate with every vehicle my family or friends have owned, and very helpful when choosing appliances, yard equipment, tires, etc.

Here we go, @BlueOval1954

I found the HenryFord thread with the Oil Geeks Techron video...this is just a screenshot of where you can find it, if you want to of course!

Andy
Hey, thanks for doing the legwork. The link worked and I learned something new today. Who knew that BP was not top tier gas ?
