I've seen almost 100 near-new Mavericks being available on the Carvana website. Many of them have less than 1,000 miles. Of course, they are above the MSRP but not by a whole lot. So my question is why did the seller let go of these trucks at such low mileage? I don't see if they are making a lot of money on these after all the hassle of ordering and waiting and paying sales tax and license fees etc. I don't get it.

A lot of people ordered more than one (to get a better chance or just getting one or to get it sooner) and kept the first one or the one they liked best and sold the other to Caravana, or they bought one off the lot while waiting for their custom order, and some ordered one hoping to cash in on a vehicle they ordered to flip. Any custom orders refused were sold by that dealer often for a big markup above MSRP.

Consider some who either ordered two or more. Some ordered one like they wanted and a second without as many constraints as insurance for getting at least one. Some received the non preferred one first and when the preferred one came in is selling the least desired one. In addition to that some actually purchased one from dealer that became available before the ordered ones came in. They did the waiting, etc and that's all water under the bridge with any profit $50, $200, for signing name several times or even a loss of say $150/month for a few months being worth that to have one needed or not. I had a neighbor who bought one within two weeks after his wife saw mine for MSRP +10k (didn't ask me what my much cheaper deal would have been).

I was just looking at Carvana and the prices on Mavericks average between $5k and $10K markup depending on mileage. Carfax has a copy of the original sticker. I'd say that's still a hefty markup.

Quick cursory glance at Carvana inventory

Ecoboosts are around +$5k-$7k
Hybrids are up to +$10k

The ones with really low mileage (as it, 1xx) are priced on the high side. Mine has 71 miles, wonder what Carvana would give me lol.

I really don't get it. They are neat cars but we've seen the issues and where Ford cut costs. I would've been much more eager to pay around $2k for better paint, proper rust protection, etc. People paying such a high price...I don't get it.

Link to those 100 Carvana Mavericks that have less than 1000 miles on them that are above MSRP but not by a whole lot.

Because I call BS otherwise.

On my current 2023 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid with MSRP of $26,850 and 235 miles on it Carvana is offering me $33,270 which is well over my total out-the-door price of $28,341 which includes all taxes, title and fees.

If I sold (which I am not doing) it would be a profit of $4,929

I made a profit selling my 2022 Maverick XLT Hybrid with 9,269 miles and 1 3/4 years of use and a roof defect to Carvana for $31,404 on August 28, 2023.

My total out-the-door price was $26,068 and MSRP was $24,620.
Profit was $5,336

Get your deposit slip out and contact Carvana. They will need the numbers to direct deposit.

Ok, I just want to understand it better and get my math right.

so let's use this as an example: https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/2811805

It has only 838 miles so we can say it's practically new. MSRP + TTL for a base XLT would be around $24,900 MSRP+$1600 Destination 2000 TTL = $28,500, and if you sell it to Carvana, I think they might give you $30,500 so they can make $2,000 - $3,000 on the truck gross (they have a lot of costs too). While a $2,000-$ 3,000 profit for the truck owner is great, if you flip it to get to the next truck, you still need to pay for TTL which probably makes the total cost a wash. Am I missing something?

I did a quick "get offer" thing on Carvana for my maverick. The offer is $32,300 for a 23 Hybrid XLT with about $1,600 options (CP360 + tow hitch + 400w invertor). I paid almost $30k out of the door after TTL. I am not sure if the $2,300 profit is worth it.

I don't mean to start a debate. I am just trying to figure out the math to see if it makes sense to sell this truck when my 24 order is here (24 order is almost identical and will be $2000 more expensive than the 23 one.

I know a few that sold their Maverick due to reliability concerns, and/or the frustration of getting issues resolved.

My theory is all the people hoping to make big bucks on a flip sale are getting out while they can still can without taking a loss. The first people to flip made good markups. The last ones to flip are likely going to take a loss.

Where you are makes a huge difference as well. In my area XL EB & Hybrid are both still listing for 10k over MSRP. XLT 10-15k. Lariat 10-15k. Every single one of them, even one with a rebuilt title! Are they selling? No idea, not watching that closely since I'm not buying.

A lot of it is due to the recalls. It's a risk that a lot of people are not willing to take. It may trigger some forum members here who act like they are immune to said issues in the recall, but they are not. Aside from that, lots of reasons people trade in/sell vehicles.

As for pricing - purely location based and nothing more. It's disgusting.
