That just has to suck to be waiting for a truck and not being able to get it because of the recall. Or for the dealers that can't sell the trucks because of the recall. My biggest concern is the camera works fine I've not had a problem yet, it's only been 6 months but still, and I'm afraid that if it goes in for the recall that will actually mess something up.
I have a 22 Eco boost and for the very first time when backing up this morning the screen froze with an image and did not unfreeze when I put it into Drive. The simple solution to get around this is simply hold down the power and fast-forward button until you see the system reboot and everything is back to normal.

I'm being dramatic, but I went and bought a 24 maverick XL in November, still waiting to take possession. Anybody else in the same boat?
Same boat. Put a $500 deposit down in November for a 2024 in transit. It arrived one day after the stop sale announcement. I’m using my old 2005 F-150 as a daily driver until it resolves which…is not ideal.

Bob,
Add the $169,000,000 FINE 😂
Seems to me that if Ford had just installed the Sync system that's in the Lariat they would be money ahead at this point. Sometimes being cheap cost more money.

23 XLT and my backup camera has these momentary freezes somewhat regularly backing up. Never been an issue for me, but definitely happening. When I backup to the outside of the garage door, I will pause for a moment to let the camera get "caught up" to the image location. Won't be an issue for me personally, but I could see where this could cause someone to hit something because the video image is lagging reality.

It's sorta a tangent, but I worry that these sorts of recalls and stop selling holds will become the new norm with so much sensor based safety and driver aid tech being loaded onto vehicles, often on top of very legacy infrastructure (in this case Sync 3) that was not originally designed for it. It's nice to have the backup camera, but drivers should not be 100% reliant on it for the safe operation of the vehicle, same for forward collision assist, blind spot warning, lane assist, radar cruise...

Having said that, has anyone bought a Maverick in the past few months where they got totally duped, not knowing about this? If I was getting a $3K+ discount, I would probably roll the dice on being able to take possession in Q1.
Sync 3 isn't the problem, it works fine in the Lariats and in multiple models before it, some with even more demanding infotainment systems.
The problem is Sync 2⅝ or whatever they call the cut down version Ford used in the XL and XLT Mavericks. They wanted to save a few bucks and now it's biting them in the ass.

I was in the same boat as you. I put my deposit down the Thursday before the stop sale on an in transit truck. Got my $1000 dollar deposit back and used the money i had for the down payment on a used Cadillac. Completely different direction, but, no regrets.

I have never noticed an issue with my backup camera - I guess I have too many years watching the mirrors to notice the camera locking up. I would be livid on not getting a vehicle because
of this ..$hit.. - as someone else said Ford using the Sync 2-5/8 to save a buck is sure biting them in the A$$...

I think there should be a legal end-run available in situations like this, where the owner can sign a waiver that exempts the OEM from liability……. and backup cameras definitely fall into the "noncritical" bucket.
Alright. Say there is a waiver, you sign it and have the vehicle. You’re in a Walmart parking lot backing out of a space, your camera freezes and you run over and kill my child. Besides the fact that I will take you for everything, is Ford off the hook because of a waiver?

New cars with open safety recalls should not be put on the road.

Ford's inability to buy the right camera hardware or to spend a bit more on the infotainment to make sure the image can be processed is their own fault. Sync 3 was already 5-6 years old by the time the Maverick was even announced, and they went even cheaper.

Yep, With the waiver signed. Ford is off the hook.
The truck owner is on the hook for all the liability and damage that happens.
Cue the drones that say, the parents should have been holding the kids hand.
Like a small kid has never pulled out of his/her parents' hand in a parking lot before.
Waiver or no waiver
A good lawyer would still go after Ford because of Deep Pockets

Glen, are you sure? In this age of law suits? Since Ford probably has deeper pockets than the truck owner, I'd go after them in a heartbeat. Maybe the driver never graduated high school or was english second language. I don't know if you could make a bullet proof enough waiver to limit Ford's liability. Oh yeah, while I was at it I would sue the dealer too - as maybe they glossed over something or offered the buyer some incentive to sign.

Yes Ford should be off the hook if you signed a waiver but you know that's not how it is. A lawyer would just sue ford for x amount and it would be cheaper for Ford to settle and that's how you win. I mean, I worked with a police officer whose wife was speeding and lost control of her car crashed into a ditch hit a culvert and was injured. They sued the road commission for putting the ditch there with the culvert, they sued the state highway department because it was their highway, they sued The car manufacturer and they sued each for like 30,000, or $40,000 and because the number was so low all settled out of court and she made $100,000 bucks for crashing her car. So Ford would still be in trouble that's why they won't do it.
