I haven’t noticed the brake lights coming on randomly while driving, but I have noticed from day one that the lights don’t turn off as fast as I would have expected when letting off the brake… they stay on for maybe half a second after I release the brake. I assumed this was an intentional safety feature but reading this thread I’m wondering if there’s actually some kind of issue. I’ve never had a Ford before, so maybe they all do this?
Hi there. This brake lights concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Maverick. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

The dealer reprogrammed the brake controller today, and that still didn’t fix the issue.

I discovered this tonight. Set the brake controller gain to a value of 4.0 or less and the brake lights function normally. Any value 4.5 or higher and the brake lights stay on without pressing the brake pedal. This is most likely a software problem.

At least for now, I can drive around safely with fully functioning brake lights, but I may not be able to tow until this is fixed, since I would likely use a brake gain of 6 or 7 to tow our camper.

Got back from our weekend with the trailer last night.

Did 300+km in full trailer/towing mode and brake gain set to 7.5.

Had zero issues with trailer brake function. I'm assuming we had no brake lights staying on as no one yelled at us at all lol. Again we couldn't really check them while driving so I'm not sure if they were on at all or not.

I had fears about the trailer brakes coming on on their own after your previous post, but had no such issues.

The saga continues I guess? 🤷‍♂️

UPDATE: I just picked up my Maverick from the dealer this afternoon, and confirmed with a trailer connector tester that the problem is fixed. The service advisor said that they had to replace the "brake relay module" and then program it.

The truck was at the dealer 3 times total. First to do the brake controller recall. Second to apply the recall programming again. Third to get the module replaced. The third time they had the truck a few days while diagnosing the problem and waiting on the part.

I don't know exactly what part was replaced, but it is not the brake controller switch that is mounted below the headlight switch.

Hey i'm from quebec too!
I just acquired my maverick 2 days ago and i'm having the same issues...
At first the truck recognised my trailer but i could'nt ajust my gain. The day after, the gain started working but above 4 or 4.5 and going above 10/15 km/h the brake lights were staying on and the gain screen, output was also showing that the brakes were applied on my trailer. And i also notice that if the truck is off but key on, when i press the brakes and release them the lights work like they should but when the truck is running and i do the same thing, the lights stay on for 1 or 2 seconds after i released the brake pedal

Called my ford dealer and they told me that there were no recall for that issue and that they hav'nt heard about that issue yet

sameting here except for indication on the screen about brake trailer apply (gain) whitout trailer. My dealer is Pinard Ford from Ste-Julienne ,maybe your dealer can call him about the problem. My dealer have open case about that. Or you can call him and asking Patrick at service.

Update on the situation.
Today, left my truck at my local dealer, described all the symptoms i had with and without my trailer. i was called to let me know my truck was fixed without further explanation

By the time i hot there, the service center was closed so a salesman gave me my work order and keys and it simply said....

Fixed: req check trailer wiring

I simply put my keys on the counter and wrote on the Work order, not fixed, please contact me asap, left it on the advisors desk and left.

Lets see what they have to say tomorrow.
