If you just reset your BMS (battery monitoring system) by putting your ignition on but not started then flash your high beams 5 times followed by stepping on brakes 3 times. Your red battery icon on dash will flash. This will remove battery saver mode. I had gone to the dealership because my vehicle was always in battery saver mode. They said my battery was good. By end of day same problem. Some one on here had suggested BMS reset. So I tried it with positive results.

That might have solved one problem but it created another. Your BMS now thinks you own a brand new battery and will adjust the charge it now receives appropriately. New batteries get a lower charge.

You only reset the BMS when the battery is completely charged. Otherwise it will stop it from charging when it reaches the lower voltage that you reset the BMS at.

It won't have any noticeable affect. Ford has us to perform BMS resets on various occasions or one is automatically performed when we do certain repairs. Whether normally aspirated or hybrid, I've NEVER seen any negative effect resulting from a BMS reset. But I've noticed that it has helped correct some aggravating gremlins. In theory you're correct. But in practice, there's no downside that any of us have noticed on ANY vehicle.

Just make sure the battery is fully charged.
The BMS and the learning reset at night with the doors locked will set the learning curve for SOC.
I just did mine, fully charged the battery twice to make sure it was full charged.
did the BMS reset.
I checked “car scanner” to show SOC, and it showed 65%, after the night reset, it showed 90%.
Lucky I changed the SOC with forscan to 100%, if not when I started the truck, the voltage would have been floating voltage instead of charging voltage and not trying to get the battery back to 100%.
80% is factory default SOC.

Flooded lead acid batteries like to be fully charged all of the charging time.
And would like an equalization charge weekly if possible, but that kind of hard with an automotive battery in your truck.
That is why they only last 3-4 years.

Industrial electric forklift batteries are the same as automotive batteries in theory but bigger and can last for 10 years.
Why, they are charged to 100% and have a equalization charge weekly.
And can have there water checked and added to if necessary, and specific gravity adjusted if necessary too.

They take a beating, there smart charger do what ever it takes to get them charged as fast as possible and not destroying them.

23 Mav. Hybrid 19k miles.

No. It won't. At our dealership, I've reset the bms at states of charge ranging from just enough to start the car all the way to just having been fully charged. When BMS is reset , and the vehicle sits for several hours, it calibrates correctly. There's a lot of misinformation out there.

This is good to know. Thank you for setting the record straight.

Last year in mid-Sep, from truck gotten in Apr.

Saw all the battery threads, starting looking at V and SOC.
V already down to 12.0 and below - Ford reported SOC 60% abouts.

One week - did BMS reset routine, and relearn overnight.
Morning - 11.9 V, SOC mid-70's%.

Yaaaa - lights were back on longer!
Boooo - didn't charge as high amps for as long. I have gobs of log files for Ford to analyze!

Next week - lights back to off immediately or almost. Figured as much.
Morning 11.8 V, SOC under 60%.
Recharge battery to full - took a drive (saw that in a posted work order) - parked and BMS Reset, relearn overnight.
Morning 12.2-12.3 V, SOC upper 80's%, drive to work dropped to mid-80's%, after work under 80%.
(thinking it already couldn't hold a charge).
(yes, it kept getting worse from there - but it made it 10 more months under 50% SOC and terrible V, and never hit DSM notice in Fordpass)

Perhaps this reset is beneficial if there is an actual system confusion, beyond just what so many see for charging rate.
And perhaps beneficial for those that drive well over 1 hr daily.
But for someone that only drove daily 30 min mainly - with a few days approaching 60 min - not useful.

All I know is that in my experience, if the battery is good, it's helped some customers and hasn't hurt any.

It has been a week since I did this BMS reset. So far I have not had the issue again. I will update in a week. Find it hard to believe Ford would give you the ability to do a reset if it would possibly cause more damage. Im Glad to be able to remotely start my vehicle when covered in frost or snow.
