I find it interesting that those that claim to NOT see these improvements seem to be 2024 model year owners. I wonder what the story is there.
Maybe the 2024 screen was already brighter? I haven't gotten a letter yet (got a recall notice via FordPass months ago, when there was no fix), and haven't attempted to get a fix yet, because I've never noticed my camera lagging or freezing.

I had the back up camera update done March 17. I believe I was the first person at the dealership to have it done because the service tech didn't believe the software update was yet available. I was in for routine service and asked them to double check as I had read it was just released. I was there for two hours and that included the oil change/tire rotation.

I also immediately noticed the back up image was much brighter. Until I read this thread it had not occurred to me it was the software update itself. I thought maybe the camera lense was dirty and the tech had just wiped it clean LOL

Your display parameters will also change the brightness for the back up camera. Has anyone checked their parameters before and after the update? Its possible the default intensity setting was changed in the new release. Just curious, since some folks notice a change and others don't.

I know I took a long time to come around to the topic at hand in this thread, so thanks to those who read to the end. @Bob The Builder, sorry if it seemed like a thread jack.

Most got the gist of what I am saying, which was our letters from Ford send us in to the dealers who may or may not fix what we ask and take the opportunity to upsell us on things we didn’t ask for. And what the heck? People HAVE been getting the back up camera fixed, but my dealer won’t? They say it will take half a day, when available, because it takes some trucks longer to adapt to it.

There were problems with this place before, so I have gone elsewhere. The next closest dealership, for instance, took my appointment to address the battery harness issue a while back, then refused to actually do the work unless I was experiencing Dead Maverick Syndrome on the day of the appointment.

The place I bought it is 65 miles away and the trust issue goes both ways there. I let them sell me a 22 XL Hybrid for way over MSRP because I needed it without a year’s wait and they had one of two in the country on their lot. That’s on me. Nobody else makes a small hybrid truck under 40K.

The dealership I went to two days ago for the oil change and, supposedly, the back up cam fix, texted me a few hours later to say there was a great deal of interest in my old truck if I want to trade it in. I’m thinking another Ford would be another mistake. I feel stuck. I would rather not take on a payment as a person on Social Security. There is no way I would get what I paid for it.

Meanwhile, I will be backing into parking spaces on the perimeters of the lots at the crowded grocery stores and gym so that I don’t risk whacking somebody the camera didn’t alert me to until too late. And I will continue to work on my flexibility, so I can turn and look instead of trusting the camera.

In my case the brightness bar was already at 50% before the update. Moving the bar from 51 to 100% would make zero difference in the brightness level. I noticed this before I left the dealer's lot on the day i purchased the truck. After the update and noticing the increase in brightness I checked the adjustment again. Again, moving it past 50% makes no difference, but as i said in my OP I do not care. The brightness is totally acceptable to my eyes now.

LOL, no problemo. This happens all the time on discussion forums. Nature of the beast.

Thank you. Yes, I am sure those are great phones but I am much to cheapish to spend that kind of money on a phone. Looking at the Samsung A16 on Amazon for $175.00 new. Even at that price point it makes me swallow hard, but Samsung is guaranteeing 4 version updates in the future. :cwl:
If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, I would recommend the Motorola Moto G Power 5G - 2024. Here's the deal. The G Power was a $300 phone when released. Practically every spec on the Moto is better than the Samsung A16. Because the Samsung was released as a $200 phone. Today the G Power 5g (2024) is $170 on Amazon. Multiple reviews listed the 2024 G Power as the best $300 phone. It's fantastic $170 phone.

Compared to Samsung's A16, You get a faster processor and the full 8GB of RAM that Android works best with. 128GB of storage. Wireless charging and faster (30 watt) wired. The screen is an LED but it's a premium (IPS) LED. Gets plenty bright. It has a headphone jack and Moto still builds FM radio into their phones with a headphone jack. And as someone coming back to Motorola from a Pixel (my 5a went belly up last week) I must say I soooo missed the Motorola motions (twist wrist twice to open camera, chop twice to turn flashlight off and on)

Where the Samsung is better is the camera. Motorola has never prioritized the cameras in their phones. The moto's camera is just adequate. And as you mention number of software updates. But I'd take the software updates with a dose of caution. It's probably not realistic to expect a phone with a just barely fast enough processor and just barely enough memory to be something you want to use four years (and android updates) from now. One Android update and three years of security updates is plenty enough for an inexpensive phone.

I have not pulled the trigger yet. I have owned Moto's in the past and always happy with them. Thank you, you have given me food for thought. (y)

Yes, exactly, short shifting. Tow mode will put you in 2k range with only the occasional over-rev when braking downhill.
Define what you mean by "over-rev". I've used tow/haul mode extensively and have never experienced over-revving of the engine when it downshifts with braking to increase compression braking. "Over-rev" typically means revving over redline.

I believe the FX4/4K tow suffers more from lugging due to final drive gearing, maybe.
It should be the opposite. The 4K tow package (2022-2024) has a lower 3.81:1 final drive (higher numerically) which would mean higher RPMs in any gear at a given speed than the standard 3.63:1 final drive ratio. The FX4 has the standard 3.63:1 final drive ratio without 4K tow, so it would have no effect on RPM.

I reckon when I decide to upgrade my phone which might be soon. I'll go with something like this👇👇👇$300-$400

I mis-used the term "over-rev". I meant revs higher than needed (engine breaking) when in tow mode but not actually towing.
You're right again. I was thinking backwards in terms of the final drive and RPM relationship. I did put the qualifier "I believe" because I was basically guessing.

Got the recall done this morning at my local dealership. Took 1 hour. I could tell that the screen is brighter. I checked my settings and it was the same as to where I had it prior to the recall so it definitely is a brighter screen.

On the home screen, it is crisper, looking like the resolution is better than before. Prior to getting this recall done, my backup camera never froze, so I didn't have any issues. But, the older version's image was more focused. The new image is fine, but it seems slightly blurry.

I also visited the showroom and looked at a 2025 XLT. I have to say I really like the larger screen.

I just got the new camera recall done. I never had camera issues. The only difference I notice about the screen so far is that it seems a little laggy. I went to scroll around Google maps yesterday and it wouldnt move. I opened pandora and tried to scroll through my list of stations and it wouldn't scroll, it would just select whichever station my finger touched. I rebooted and it seemed to work ok.

I also notice that when stopped at red lights, the truck "bucks" forward. It would do that occasionally before, but never like this. I'll see if it settles down.

I'd love for google maps to stop "suggesting" locations for me to drive to, as the default setting. It often brings up odd suggestions that make my wife wonder why a bar, restaurant, or sons classmates parents house, I haven't been to in years is popping up in suggested locations. But I guess that's a discussion for a different thread.

I have the Moto G 5G (2022) and put a 400Gb microSD for music files and I will keep buying Motorolas. Great tech for a good price.

Understood. I get what you mean though; I wish there was a way to force it to run higher RPMs without the engine braking, which is great for towing as intended and driving steep mountain roads. I'm afraid the only way to get that is a custom tune.

I also hadn't considered why some people seem to have more issue with low-RPM cruising than I do. It could very well be that it's because I have 4K tow and they don't.
