Sure, that's fine and they should go ahead n get er done.
There's no real business case for it. The normal hybrid is just so cheap to run that a plug-in would add much more initial cost and weight (decreasing useful load and tow capacity) for very little return. Using average costs and a $4000 difference in price for a 20 kWh pack (probably more like $6k) it would be a 250,000 mile break even point.

Seeing how the Auto-Start-Stop is not currently mandated, I do not see how EPA can change anything unless they rollback CAFE standards. Customers want better fuel economy so that is probably not a winning choice.

I do wish the system was calibrated differently. I think it should not 'stop' until you have been at a standstill for more than 5 seconds. So many times, I come to a Stop Sign for a quick 1-second look, and it stops/restarts, or pull in my garage and it stops before I can get to Park. These are unnecessary stop-restarts.

I love my auto start/stop. Here where I live the idiots who time red lights are the stupidest people on the face of the earth. I am not in the least worried about it doing anything to the truck. What else can you people find to complain about.

this is technically true, but it's done in a very Federal government way.

it's a credit. but it's large enough that it's as effective as a mandate. the same thing happens with Federal highway funds. you don't have to follow certain Federal guidelines, but if you don't, you don't get the highway funds.

Not everyone hates it. I like it. I use all the added features on my Mav... Even wish it had more.... Ford cheeped out when building the Mav Lariat. It should have at least all the features I had on my 2020 Escape Titanium... Missing --- front sensors as to how close you are to something, especially with the square hood, auto day/night mirror (how cheep can you get), 8 way power seats for the drive and 6 for the passenger, buttons on the door (and fob sensor) to auto set the seat position based on the driver, just to name a few....

Parking assist (parallel), had on the Escape, which I had for almost 4 years, never used, not sure it I ever parallel parked the Escape.... Something I probably could use is what Hyundai has, starting the car and having it back out of a parking space when someone parks so damn close that you can't get into your car... lol.

They may be able to change the testing parameters and state something to the effect of 'any emissions altering device than can be turned off must be de-activated for testing' or some such which would disincentivize the automakers from installing additional cost equipment.

As an outsider it would seem like making every single consumer vehicle manufactured a mild hybrid would be a huge success overall to not only emissions but also customer experience.

I understand larger vans/trucks wouldn't benefit but for the vast majority of vehicles sold, a mild hybrid makes the most sense and prices have come down to parity with non-hybrids.

I dont completely understand the "now were fixing it" aspect. I am not up to par on all the rules and regulations... but to my understanding the auto start/stop is not mandated to be on vehicles. and if that is in fact true... how are you going to force private companies to not use them...and why?
Take a look at the resume of the person making this pronouncement. It seems to be a very uneducated statement from this Secretary of Transportation.

Its a a feature that may save some gas but cost owners more in replacement batteries and starter motors.

So in the end does it help lower oil consumption or lower co2? I doubt it.

On last vehicle I disabled it manually each start. Now have hybrid.

The dumbest vehicle I encountered start-stop on was a diesel Audi A4 I rented in the UK. Terrible acceleration and when start-stop kicked on when waiting at a roundabout, I had to anticipate an opening 3-4 seconds in advance and floor the accelerator so that the engine could start again in time to pull out into traffic. It was a bit of a death-defying maneuver.

The Maverick's auto start-stop got me in trouble once when it stopped at a traffic light a few blocks from my house and the battery hadn't had a chance to charge up from days of non-use. Had enough juice to start the Mav in the driveway, but not enough juice to start it a second time. I know this has been addressed (supposedly) in a recall, but I haven't had it done. I replaced the crap Ford battery with a good AGM years ago and I also keep it on a battery tender.

I'd say that anyone buying a Maverick prolly has more in common than not. Even EB owners are interested in a small, affordable, responsible vehicle.

Now, if I ever see someone modding a Mav for rolling coal? Might change my opinion then!
That's what I've thought too about Maverick buyers, so the choosing of sides EB vs Hybrid, is really unnecessary. All of us could have chosen a F450 SuperDuty to haul air and the occassional sheet of plywood and relatives sofa... but we all were interested in buying a small, affordable, responsive, comfortable, safe, and capable vehicle that was cheaper to acquire, cheaper to run, while leaving a smaller footprint on the environment.

I don't mind the stop and start... But I often find I'm pulling up to a red light and stop... motor stops.. then the light immediately turns green... and the motor has to restart... Unfortunately, our Mavericks aren't sentient and don't know how long that light is going to stay red... oh well... But everyonce in a while... I'll stop a very long red light and I appreciate that the motor takes a time out and stops burning fuel while I wait out the light...

With my hybrid, when the engine stops, the air conditioner continues to run. With the same ice cold air coming out of the vents. Which is kind of nice when it's 117°.

Excited to see this. I hope it's true.
Now if we could get the emissions standards relaxed so we could go back to building awesome cars again.
Exactly. Screw clean air and future generations! We deserve cool cars over all else!

Non political (hopefully) take: Now's the time to get the EPA to fix the gas can standards. The "always leaks when you pour" plunger contraptions are the epitome of bad design all around.
Yes! Legislate the really big issues like gas cans, and fast!
