I never understood why people dislike this feature.
Because it's annoying to have your car starting up like you're turning the key every time you accelerate from a stop. My last vehicle with this feature would also shut off during slow turns, then awkwardly restart as I am trying to entire a driveway or plaza. I kept turning it off. The auto start/stop on a hybrid works so much better and more smoothly than it does on a gas only motor. Really in 2026 every vehicle should be a hybrid anyway.

I'm not a fan for of start/stop. I know we have it and it's the way it has to work on our hybrids, but never understood the need on a regular ICE vehicle. I do have a question, our hybrids don't actually have a starter I believe? I think it starts by the wizardly electric "motor/generator"? I would not like a standard starter on a vehicle being used over and over every day, seems like unnecessary stress and a maintenance issue. I'll bet a starter for a Maverick is not cheap.
I saw where my starter lives and I have no desire to ever need to change it. The gas flap is much easier to reach!

Right, none of us should ever need to tow or haul anything or drive 700 miles a day while doing it!

The hybrid can do those things as well and get better mileage doing it...

my '23 MY Ranger was mfg. without a stop/start feature because of the supply chain shortages during covid - it came with some paperwork from the factory as such - it was a real selling point when I found it

In my Ecoboost I’m hauling ass down the road
Keeping up with traffic.
Light changes,
I stop,
Engine shuts down,
It takes a good minute for my turbo to spin down from 10, 20 or 40,000 Rpm.
The instant my engine shuts down oil pressure drops to nothing and what oil is in there gets superheated. Full synthetic does not negate this.
Depriving my turbo of its essential cooling liquid Is the absolute Stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.

I religiously turn it off during preflight.

Ever seen a tractor trailer rig bellowing tons of smoke ?
The often young inexperienced driver parked, shut down the engine and did not wait the one full minute for the turbo to spin down with oil pressure and cool from a nearly red hot normal running condition.
Well said! Exactly the same reason I do my “pre-flight” button pushing! 😉

And in 2026 ALL vehicles should be painted Barbie pink with wide white wall tires. Why? Because that is what I THINK YOU SHOULD DRIVE! Makes as much rational sense as "all should be hybrids." Why not ALL should be EVs? A thread about a repeal of a MANDATE that never was a mandate and people want to MANDATE what type of vehicle I can buy. SMF'NH!

Many mechanics have proven this feature hurts your engine. Scotty the hit internet
Mechanic has a good video about it and documentation. Worth a look.

Why I’m a big supporter of postlube pump feature for turbo fitted engines. A driver on a long haul, stops at station, or in driveway, shutting down engine. Hot spinning turbo cooking its non Flowing oil. If no postlube setup, alternative is to sit, let engine idle for say 5-10 minutes to cool down, keep oil flowing. Oil will cool down good at idle RPM.

That was tried and fried.
So you would admit MANDATING what vehicle people can purchase is stupid? P. S. My reply was sarcasm and EVs were not universally mandated anyways.

I can only speak for myself. My feeling is that the defeat button should remember the last setting when you restart your truck. In other words, the A.S.S would become optional. I don't really think that feature would have been too much to ask.
etting until driver changes it
I do think it is able to be defeated in ForScan, right?
I agree . It should keep your last settingbuntil driver changes it

Correct, but the 2009 Endangerment Findings came real close.
