As the title indicates, auto off/on does not work when the truck is stopped at the light, the display shows that it is disabled:

Ford Maverick Auto Shutoff/Start doesn't work... Auto shut start

When the traffic starts to move the icon in red circle disappears and comes back, when we stop at the next traffic light without shutting off the engine.

The switch on the console is not lit, a.k.a. not shut off. I can cycle the off/on via the switch and doing so does pop up a message that this feature is off/on by the switch, but it is the same, still does not work.

This feature worked just fine the last couple of days, just started not to yesterday. Other than the indication in the dashboard that is disabled, there's no error message.

Any idea what can cause this?

Thx...

That doesn't mean it is disabled, it just means it is not available to work at that stop - that would be the light on the dash beneath the screen and it needs to be pressed each time the vehicle cycles on/off.

Looking at your MPG, total miles for the trip, and what your average speed would be for the trip and it is likely that the computer decided not to shut down at that stop.

It happens but you're saying it doesn't work at any light?

Also, are you pressing the brake pedal down fully?

Your owners manual states the conditions where the Auto-Stop-Start is disabled..... You were in one of those conditions...

Battery isn't charged up enough for it to work and/ or to much electric draw ( ac , ECT ) while Mav running . short trips with multiple stops don't help . mine has done this .

Thanks everyone, even the one that suggest RTFM... without stating the page number for the 556 pages manual...🤬

The "Trip1" shows the mileage since the last fill up, close to a week ego. Is the outdoor temperature of 56°F within the operating range? It should be...

After reading your posts, and TFM (page 168 - 169), there are two possibilities:
  • The engine is required to run to
    maintain interior climate and reduce
fogging (Yes, it was heavy rain in the morning and it is still...)
  • The heated windshield is on. (It's probably part of the Lariat Lux Package)
I'll check the battery and the charging on Sunday, it supposed to rain until then, but it's doubtful that is the reason.....

I noticed the engine off/on wasn't working once last month. After I drove for awhile it started working.

I also surmised that the battery may have been a bit low since I hadn't driven my Maverick for over a week.

The .pdf version of the manual is searchable by keyword. Makes finding things easy!

On my 2.0EB, the circle around the A is green when stop/start has shut off the engine at a stop. If the computer **decided** not to shut off the engine, the circle is gray-ish. There is a pod of four buttons on the console just aft of the round shift selector. One has the circled A for engaging and bypassing the stop/start. Did you inadvertently push that button and bypass the stop/start feature?

I noticed mine seems to have a mind of its own. If this is the worse "problem" I have with my truck I will count my blessings. :ROFLMAO: (y)

Of course it does... provided that you know the keyword(s). Typing in "auto start/auto start stop" gives you nothing. Typing in just a single word, like auto, start or stop gives you a lot. Found it in the bookmarks, halfway down, where I learned that the keyword for this search should be "auto-start", or "auto-start-stop". Who knew?

@Bob The Builder... So far, this is the "worst issue" with my Chachkie, still a learning experience for me, like the auto hold among others....

I didn't see anyone mention that there is an Auto StartStop page in the cluster display that you can view to see the current Start/Stop status. Here's a pic I took of mine when my battery was low because I mostly make short trips to/from work, after a short road trip it started working again. It will also stay on for Heating/Cooling if the A/C is still working to cool the cabin. I must say I didn't mind it not working for those few days, especially when I park and it shuts off the engine before I have a chance to shift to park, only to start it right back up when I shift to park so I can then shut it back off again.

My Ecoboost 2.0 does the same thing . I do short trips to work, not enough time to charge the battery plus running a dash cam which stays on for a period of time all contribute to start stop not working. Charging the battery works for a few days but then the state of charge drops and the start stop will not work again.

Thx all for sharing your experience with this feature. While I didn't believe that my issue related to the battery and it's charging, it's been verified today that this issue is relating to the battery. Alternatively, it could be the alternator that does not provide enough charging, due to all of the electronics using up most of the charge capacity.

Yes, most of my trips are short as well as some of you with the same results. This issue had not shown up until around 2,200 miles, when I started not to disable the auto-stop-start feature. Boy, it didn't take long to show up...

One thing for sure is original battery is crap . doesn't hold a charge long .
I'd go further, the battery doesn't hold charge for crap. That's quite contradictory to the statement in the manual, quote from page# 170:

Will the frequent engine starts
cause parts to wear out?

Your vehicle has an enhanced battery and
starter motor that are designed for the
increased number of engine starts
Enhanced my ass, bunch of lying... never mind... need a new battery. Interstate list this battery as fits into the Maverick:

Ford Maverick Auto Shutoff/Start doesn't work... 1696112025604

With the winter around the corner, I really don't want to get to the point that it won't start @0 °F, or below temperatures outdoors. I also wouldn't want to kill the alternator with a high capacity battery. If you have a different brand/size suggestion, I'd appreciate it.

Thx...

Shortly after reading this post I got in the truck to get coffee and BOOM this was on my dash!
