Experienced an odd problem a couple of days ago. I mistakenly left my key fob in the truck with the doors unlocked. The next morning was looking for the fob. I remembered where I put it and went out to the truck but found it locked. I’m not sure how this could’ve happened. If I had left the fob in the truck and locked it, I should have gotten an immediate audible alert. What gives?

I used my wife’s fob which she keeps in the house, went to the truck and was able to open the door. Is this just a one time blip or something that I should be concerned with? Of course, if I keep the fob in my pocket and do not leave it in the truck, I’ve solved that problem, but I would really like to get to the bottom of this.

Bob,
The subject has been researched thoroughly.
Take a look at the bottom of this thread.👇 For more threads related to this subject.

In short Ford Maverick does not have any "walkaway" auto lock features on it.
You inadvertently locked the driver's door when you pushed it open. Very easy to do because of the position of the manual locking lever. I even made a video of how easy it happens. Not one member has been able to make a video showing the auto locking phenomenon.

Glen, have you ever accidentally hit that dreaded lock button with your size 14? 🤣

Did you only try and open the Driver's door? You can easily and accidently lock the Driver's door, but the other doors should remain unlocked.

2025 keyless entry - different beast for the auto-locking with fob left in cabin than prior MYs.
IF you did not lock only the drivers door as pictured above.

Of course the fob should have stopped sending signal after a few minutes when it went to sleep, but the truck's system knows fob in or out of cabin.
Several other posters have shared the results of their tests.
Leave keys in truck unlocked (can't recall on or off) - failsafe is lock up after some short time.

Might test it again if inside garage.
Keys on passenger seat - Get out - unlock all - close door - wait.

My 2022 does a similar but irritating thing: I leave it unlocked, but 50 % of the time when I return the driver's door ONLY is locked. The other 3 doors are not. Weird. Left the key in the ignition once and had to crawl over the seat to unlock the driver's door.

Your 2022 isn't doing anything. 50% of the time you are accidentally hitting the manual lock lever when you get out of the truck. See post #4 above. ;)

Me: 24 hybrid Lariat - I always leave my fob in my truck parked in my garage. When I can't open the driver's door it is user error - I accidentally rolled my hand or in some way engaged the lock lever [different from the electric lock button] when I unlatch my door. I have to walk to the passenger side and hit the electric unlock button to open my door. I never had a situation where all doors were locked and I couldn't get in.

At least on my truck, the door locks do not self-engage after a period of time whether my fob is on my body or in the truck. I must consciously lock the truck using the proximity sensor on the door handle or push the lock button on the fob that is on my body. The proximity sensor on the handle will not lock the truck if the fob is inside the truck. Hope this helps.

This happens to me fairly regularly...not sure why. I leave my key/fob in the truck when in the garage. My 2023 has the keypad on the door so no problem.

I belatedly realized the doors can be opened with the Ford Pass phone app.

Note that I said that the ONLY door that locks itself is the driver's door. It happens most of the time now. Grrr...

Jeff,
Only the driver door locks because you're inadvertently pressing the manual lock lever, while you're pushing open the door.
As illustrated in the photos below 👇🏼 👇🏼
