Everything about people's problems opening and shutting Maverick doors confuses me. I typically hit the electric lock button on my way out, but that's because when I open the door I make zero contact with the mechanical linkage button and I want all the doors locked.
And I see other topics where people want the armrest handle to be high visibility so they can shut it in the dark. The damn thing never moves! You reach your arm out and it's there. After doing it two or three times, you should be able to do it with your eyes closed. It's not like the Maverick door handles or armrests are in unusual locations.

Yeah, I think muscle memory doesn't work so well for some folks. I've daily driven Fords for 25 years with the same lock lever and have never accidentally locked my door. I don't have to look at the door as I reach for anything, regardless of which of my five vehicles I'm driving.

Note that I said that the ONLY door that locks itself is the driver's door. It happens most of the time now. Grrr...

Jeff
Yes - we all caught that.

And it is precisely because of that you were referenced to the prior post with pictures as to what you are doing to cause exactly that.

I'm in such a habit of using a remote to lock vehicle doors that it's (almost) not possible for me to lock keys into a modern vehicle unintentionally. The only time I touch an interior lock button is to unlock a door for a passenger. I also have a rule that my wife must carry the extra key with her when she's riding with me as a precaution.
And I was in habit of doing the lock all button on way out most prior vehicles, but now that so many vehicles only seem to set some alarms with the remote lock all - I've got that habit now.

Arming the Anti-Theft Alarm System
The alarm is ready to arm when you switch your vehicle off.
Lock your vehicle with your remote control to arm the alarm.

Thanks for the mention! Yeah, that thread is mine. I've had the locking happen to me more than once, and I'm pretty sure it occured 2 ways. Regardless, the accidental door locking due to the design/layout of the controls bugged me so I did something about it.

When gripping the door lever and opening the door, the side of your hand can accidentally push in the mechanical lock lever and a fingertip can accidentally press the elec lock switch. Aargh!

This ended up being a good excuse to finally get familiar with 3D printing and come up with something useful. Bought the cheapest and most neglected 3D printer I could find on FB Marketplace and spent some time watching YouTube tutorials on the design software.

Measure, draw, print, fit, and repeat. Lots of trial & error involved but I ended up with a simple 2-piece solution that works well in preventing accidental pressing of the lock lever and button.

The little bugger does it every time now. Going to the dealer next week for other issues, and I'll stick him with this as well.

Let you know.

Jeff,
It would be helpful to all of us if you could show this happening.

Here are some previous members who realize that they were locking the door themselves but in the beginning didn't think so.

Solved it! Carlito 92 was dead on--I simply did not understand his message. I was accidentally hitting that 1 inch square plastic lever just above the door pull, which was locking the door. Nothing to it!

Thanks, everyone.

Jeff,
I'm glad you found out what was actually happening.

Good luck and take care,

Only Carlitos 92? 3/4’s of the members on this forum have been saying the same thing for months! Glen Baker LLC sent I don’t know how many self explanatory pictures alone! But, so happy you have it all figured out and you’re happy, main point of this forum. 😊

You wouldn't know why the 5 speed in my 1993 Ranger--that had really bad 2nd and 3rd gear synchros--suddenly made a 'growling' noise and cured itself! It's a miracle!

Jay,
If he had mentioned the "auto lock" problem to the dealer they would have shown him this.
