Are people actually paying basically MSRP for 3 year old Mavs?

I was bored so I looked on autotrader for Mavs like mine (23 XL Hybrid < 50k miles). The asking prices were basically at or even sometimes slightly above original MSRP. I know Ford has jacked the price continuously and the used market is still all screwed up, but is this what people are actually paying? I have to imagine you won't be able to negotiate huge sums off, like maybe a grand or two. To me, that's crazy that the car has seen practically zero depreciation despite being three model years old and having 10s of thousands of miles.

Let me put it this way...when a 2020 Ranger with 50k miles hits $30k plus with an added 4 year warrenty, and the dealer refuses to budge/has not called me back in about a month...yet the vehicle still sits, lol..there you go. They were willing to take $600 off asking, and talks ended.

Used vehicle prices are even crazier than new car prices...it's why I just said screw it and went new after looking at F150s and Rangers; same story every time.

They've seen low depreciation because the new ones are more expensive.
The rise of Carvana has really screwed things up as well...their pricing has always been higher than average due to the nature of what's going on, and then their pricing basically became the average once it somehow/someway became common for people to do.

I just recently picked up my 22 XLT with 55,000 miles on it that was priced at $21,250 OTD. Was sitting on the lot for 4 months before I came by. More than happy with that based on how the market is.

CarMax gave me 27k for my 2022 Maverick with 32k miles that I paid 33k for. I can't complain. They probably marked it up a few k and sold it already...

The used car market is different in different parts of the country. I think KBB would give a better estimate of the value of the Maverick than a used car dealership. They will try gouging you to begin with. I am not paying anywhere near MSRP for a used car. Maybe some will. I paid $4000 below MSRP for my new Maverick at the end of December 2024. My 5th. new Ford and every one were below sticker. I see new Mavericks all over the dealers lots now. When I started shopping in the summer of 2023 there was not a single Maverick on the 3 lots near me. Every dealer told me they could get me one for 5K over sticker. I said I can wait. Glad I did. ☮

Everything depends on local. Up here, Mavericks fly out of dealerships and sell for MSRP. KBB still has my Maverick listed as worth around 27-28K with 9K miles excellent condition. That's a 2.5K depreciation in almost 3 years. It wasn't that many years ago it would have depreciated twice that just driving it off the lot on day one.

Crazy times and it seems like things aren't going to change any time soon.

To add into this: not only are elevated prices of new models suppressing old prices, there's also demand for the old ones because, ya'know, buttons. There are people out there who seek out the first three model years so they dont have to use touch controls.

Hybrids are also harder to find in general, new ones do not sit like ecoboosts do, so the used ones are commanding a premium over the ecoboosts, which sell for well under MSRP used.

The 23 is also more feature complete, with the wired keypad, heated windshield wiper park, and 4 way adjustable headrest on the lariats.

There's also sales to consider. The 22 did not sell very many due to production constraints. The 23 was better but was still only 97k units.

I think the gas crunch and uncertainty has a little to do with it as well, thus why the hybrid model is in such high demand still.

My 2024 Eco Lariat new was $36,000
18 months and 20,000 miles later I totaled it.
Value was $32,000
I had gap, I got full replacement but that’s not my point.
They charge that much for used because there’s a sucker born every minute.

Back in the day. Consumers were much smarter, This ain’t back in the day.

First time in my life I ever paid MSRP was on my 2021 Bronco Sport. Because I had no options.
It was buy that Ford or go look at crap.
Don’t think Ford doesn’t know this.

My 2024 Maverick, I got $1,500 off MSRP.
They called it a military discount and I only got that because my ass was coming out of the chair and I was leaving.

So basically my ass was worth $1,500
:’P

My new 2026 Tremor , MSRP was $43,400
I got employee discounts and loyalty incentives totaling approximately
$3,400 off of MSRP, I was happy.

If you think you paid too much for new or used It’s totally your own fault.
They charge all the market will stand for.

I’ll never buy a used Maverick, there’s no way to know if I got one that pulled 8,000 pound trailers as a guy in here has done.

the way to look at is would be that if someone is looking for a 3 year old reliable (in most cases...) 45 mpg truck are they good with paying 21K for one or are they going to order one new and wait maybe 4-6 months and pay 10K more for essentially the same thing. If the buyer is looking at economics it doesn't make any sense to pay the extra 10K because they're never going to make that up by gasoline savings. Especially the better choice if the used truck has the Ford Extended warranty on it - which is transferable for $100.

More or less what I was going through. Was looking at different mavericks for the better part of 6 months trying to find a good deal/fit. In the end it was between a 2024 XLT and my 2022 XLT. I just couldn't justify spending another 6-7 grand for what was basically the same truck but with lower mileage and seat warmers.
