Thank you everyone! I got a call earlier from the manager of the dealership. He apologized for the "confusion" that may have occurred and the "Texas Protection Package" has been removed. I will be heading down today after work to sign off on the new pricing.

I appreciate everyone who leaned into to reach out to the dealership to help me make this right. I really did feel like I was stuck with nothing to negotiate on. My goal was never to harass, annoy, or disrupt the dealership. So, at this point I'd appreciate if you left them alone unless this happens again!

I may need the backup someday, when I go to Ames IA for my truck (flying in then driving back to FL) ... talk about being held ransom - I will be if they try any similar crap! But until it happens I trust this dealership will "do the right thing"!!

I would try calling an investigative reporter from a local television station. Bad press might give the dealership a reason to be more reasonable. That is the threat I will make if this happens to me when my truck is on its way. When I placed my order I did not get a copy of the order that I signed with the pricing and add ons. I made three trips to the dealership to gently but firmly request a copy in case they try something like this. If you have the original paperwork you might try paying them under duress with the understanding that you will see them in small claims court to recover your $2500. GOOD LUCK!

Just thought I would share this with the Texas Maverick community.

My vehicle is scheduled to arrive later this month so I went to the dealership to prep paperwork. While I was looking at the price sheet there was a $2,500 "Texas Protection Package" that included paint/leather protection (no exact details on what they are doing to provide protection), vin etching, and window tints.

I pointed out that these things individually don't even add up to $2,500 and my sales man said "this is pretty much a non negotiable for all cars from this dealership, if you had bought this ford as an inventory item we would be charging a much much higher mark up"

Given that I've already been truck-less and waiting for such a long time for the Maverick to arrive, I feel forced to eat this $2,500 markup.

I hope that this will inform others to find a different dealer that isn't going to be predatory on prices given the current state of the supply chain.

There are dealers selling at MSRP. You could fly somewhere and pick one up for cheaper.

Almost all of Illinois ! That's why I have to pick mine up 4hrs into Michigan. Robbery !

Thats great that the 2500.00 bs has been lifted.We all need to stick together to fight these dealer scams.We are all "Maverick" brothers and sisters.When I get my Mav,I will make sure to wave to other Mav drivers.Of course,my xlt,hybrid,lux,SIBL,may be far off in the future!

Let's all be clear, the manager calling it a "confusion" is simply not believable. They are not amateurs, this is a profit tactic. Pushing this on the vehicle and the customer puts them in the challenging position of having to pushback. Glad you did. And congrats.

I agree! But, what can I do? If I want the car, I would have to wait in the reservation line all over again.

They are definitely capitalizing on the fact that I have no options. Hopefully this will help inform others who may have reservations with them.

I would have waited. If people quit paying for this ridiculous crap and admin fees, it will stop. You're just helping the owner pay for his Ferrari home in his garage. F him.

It was easier to buy a new car years ago.There were always way too many unsold new cars at dealers and you could usually get a good deal if you shopped wisely.I have always said that the best tool to haggle on a car is your shoes.They walk you into the dealers front door and if you point them in the opposite direction,they will walk you out.Never fall in love with any car.Once you do you put all the cards in the salesman's hand.Also,do not discuss the car deal in the salesman's office when he steps out to "talk to his boss"they have hidden microphones in the room to listen in.Unfortunately,all bets are off now.The dealers have the upper hand due to supply and demand.I am sure they have been waiting for this and have no conscience for what they do.

BTW - what is a "Road and Bridge " charge - that too sounds slimy from a different source ....

County "FEE" in Texas collected when you pay your annual car tag.
Local fees, which range from $0 to $31.50, are established by county officials. Counties can charge up to $10 for road and bridge projects, $20 for long-term road projects and $1.50 for child safety programs. The inspection fee is shared by the inspection station and the state, which collects $7.50 per vehicle.

Road and Bridge fee was originally a Bridge Fee but there was a big big stink raised when it was discovered that some counties were collecting it when they did not have a single Bridge in whole county so our legislature changed the name to Road and Bridge! But remember we have NO state income tax!

Neither do we but all taxes are raised by gasoline tax and vehicle registration for the roads and bridges and overpasses LOL
