The Maverick has different shifter programming than the Escape and its Lincoln cousins. You need to put it in neutral, hold the brake and hit the L button. That puts it in neutral-hold mode. Otherwise when you touch the brakes or open the door it will go into park and the car in behind will hit it. Then tell the attendants to be careful not to hit the brake pedal while putting the floormats back in, or it will exit neutral-hold mode. Ignore the guys telling you to just put it in neutral with brake hold off - they clearly have not been in a higher-end carwash where you don't sit in the vehicle.

Thanks did not know if you left it in neutral while running it would not engage in park when you leave the vehicle.
It will engage Park when you leave vehicle UNLESS YOU PUSH THE L BUTTON , which delays the auto park happening for 30 minutes.(30 minute delay may happen earlier if 12v drops to 11.9v, if I remember correctly.), carwash neutral delay is mentioned in the manually.

If you're looking at the instrument cluster P R N D L when putting the truck in Neutral, it will display a pop-up notice to hit L if you want to keep the truck in Neutral.

Yep after two years I don't pay much attention at my own risk to popups which don't stay long enough to read anyway.

The P R N D L in the instrument cluster is where I look to see what gear the truck is in. It's a lot safer than looking down at the shifter. The shifter can be found by just reaching for it. I always see the Neutral Hold instructions pop-up when I put the truck in N.

If you're looking at the instrument cluster instead of down at the shifter, the message is pretty hard to miss.

I do not usually because when I want to leave it in N I will be looking for the L button which needs a protrusion aka nipple on it so it can be felt without feeling around. Maybe Ford needs to put braille symbols on all the PRNDL and make them all pressable. Not likely out of fear a blind driver might sue after driving into something. The mode selector button needs two buttons one to select and restart like it does now and a second button to restart in the mode which is selected which would require yet another pop up.

?

I have no problem finding the L button by touch. It's right there in the center of the dial and pretty easy.

I like this local car wash that the attendant drives your car in. They vacum the car then drive it on the track with no one on it. Is this possible for the Mav? Considering the steps needed to run it through a car wash.
Turn the auto stop brake feature off, so it doesn’t jerk around perhaps on the belt

Also close your sunroof and windows. lol.

Those instructions will only work if the carwash attendant does not open the door and step out. That's a bit of a weird carwash where they stay in the vehicle as it rides down the line. If they open the door, the trans goes automatically into park. You need to use the neutral-hold feature instead.

There are steps needed to run a Maverick through a car wash? I was unaware. What are these steps?

I always get full service car washes. I’ve never had a problem. Maybe the attendants know the secret steps of preparing the Maverick for the car wash.

They all learn pretty quick when a maverick gets drug through the wash in Park. With all the soap and water the tire should slide at least quietly.

I rarely use it.

But AT A CAR WASH I learned the hard way the “Auto Hold” button works in neutral.

The little rollers kept lifting my wheels and going under the truck. Workers were yelling “put it in neutral” and “take foot off brake”.

Well, it was in neutral. Foot was off brake.
Truck would not budge…. Until that little button with the hand I think it is was pressed.

My Truck came with a year of free truck washes for a year. They are used to almost all cars and said it’s like a bronco to them.
Man, I only got a year of free truck washes for 6 months :(
