This has probably been answered before, but is the diagonal foot-long antenna on top of the cab susceptible to automated car wash damage? Too chicken to find out for myself.

I've never even thought of that! I took mine thru a wash a month ago and it was OK. Why would it be any different than any vehicles antennae?

Not really. It's quite flexible.

I just got the stubby antenna but I only plan on using it when I need it. I'll need it when using the roof rack for kayaks, canoe, or ski box. I don't think it's necessary for just a carwash.

If it were me, I would simply unscrew the OEM antenna -> carwash -> reinstall OEM antenna.

Here are my 2 use cases for the stubby:

1. Roof boxes/canoes/kayaks on the roof.
2. Low garage door or garage rope that could snag the long OEM antenna.

Else, I don't see the stubby as a necessity. I only bought it because I had an online gift card.

Just an FYI before everyone buys a stubby - In Rural areas the Stubby really lacks reception

Cheers

It's also really, really bad with picking up HD radio if you have Sync3.

That's what I had been doing with all of my vehicle with antenna. Except the Maverick since I forgot; out of sight, out of mind I guess....

I personally removed the antenna before taking through the wash. But its a pain because I have to open my bedcover and climb in the bed to remove and reattach. Short people problems 😂
Ideally if It was not a worry I'd be happy to not have to do it, but I'd rather be safe then sorry. Some of those auto carwashes are brutal.

I installed a LONGER antenna for better reception & it has made it through many washes, some no touch & some with brushes.

I just remove the antenna altogether. Reception still as clear as day with or without antenna attached. But I don’t do the radio so it doesn’t matter either way

My dealer gave me mine with it off because they said it's really susceptible to being broken off.

Just another FYI... There is room on roof for a drone supported line of sight relay docking station for those who are hard core rural.

Never had an antenna bend or break on me in 40 years. Not even the the thin, stiff wire type on my older vehicles. The one the Mav comes with is much more sturdy, and I've had no problems with it in a car wash. Much ado about nothing, methinks ;) Might check it once a quarter just to make sure it's screwed on nice and tight. JAT
