Has anyone else noticed that their acoustic windshield has little nicks all over it? Not cracks or anything, but like an old windshield that's had many, many tiny impacts and now when the sun shines on it, it almost "sparkles". I noticed it this morning when driving into the sun. I washed with the wipers, and while it cleaned off some smudges, the "sparkles" remained. It reminds me of an older car, but I've only had mine since June!

In comparison, my wife drives a Jetta that we've had almost exactly a year, and the windshield looks pristine.

Glass is pourous. Depending on lighting most glass has thousands of them. Many products on the market to prep the glass and fill most of them in. Once done just maintain it with a spray and rinse ceramic and your good to go

We’ve had ours for 13 months, and I haven’t noticed the ā€˜sparkles,’ but it wouldn’t surprise me. Six days after we got our truck, a rock got kicked up from a pickup in oncoming traffic at a relatively low speed, while the pickup was slowing to approach a 4-way stop. It was like I could see the rock coming at my windshield in slow motion. It put a 1/2ā€-sized dimple in my windshield on day six of new Mav ownership šŸ˜”.

I’ve lived with the dimple since, and yet it hasn’t spidered like a traditional windshield…an additional benefit of the acoustic windshield! So I guess I’ll take the trade off a more brittle (?) surface layer (ā€˜sparkles’) for excellent sound dampening and non-spidering dimples.

I've had mine some 13 months and have yet to notice any tiny 'sparkles' for want of a better word. Thanks to your post, though, I will keep an eye out.

If the sun is just right I have noticed the sparkles and that has been since it was brand new. I think it's just the right flection of the sun and how glass is or this one anyway. I have probably only noticed it a couple times in a perfect situation. 99% of the time the windshield looks and feels pristine.

same happened to me was going to Dealer to pick up my tags and caught a rock. Note do not use safelite to repir window chips. They are not allowed to drill the winshield so are not able to do a a good job cosmetically on the repair.

i noticed my 1st "sparkle". now that i see it, i cant unsee it. when its that small and not cracking, its called sand pitting. since its so tiny, i am going to try a windshield repair kit and see how it goes.

I noticed that but cleaning mine with detaining spray removed the sparkels.

I have noticed that when the sun is just right I can see hundreds of sparkles. I can lay something on the dash and the sparkles will disappear. Appears to be a reflection from the texture in the dash maybe enhanced by a light film of dust on the dash.

Ford cuts corners everywhere. Soft paint, soft glass, thin metals that rust, batteries that die, interior plastics that scratch, uncomfortable seats, CV axles, underfilled diffs...the list goes on and on.

FWIW, I've had zero issues with any of this after 2 years. My Maverick, like the other 4 four Ford's I own have been entirely trouble free.

The glass is not the only factor. The sand blasting effect, this is what I call it, is also a function of the vertical angle of the windshield and the air flow. I suspect your wife’s Jetta cuts through the air a little better than the Maverick thus less damage to the windshield.
Just my opinion after observing this effect on many cars over many years.

I suspect you own those 4 Fords, were you lucky enough to win them also? I know you been lucky not to have any issues.
