All modern A/Cs (AFAIK) automatically turn off the recirculation when the defrost function is used. If you're using defrost on the windshield, that is your likely culprit.

I’ve found that whatever setting you had the unit on it turns on to that setting upon start. In the winter I set it to 74f and remote start to warm it up.

So I live in Florida and that may be a factor, but from my experience the "Auto" or "Climate Control" in the Mav is among the best operating functionality of anything I've owned that wasn't fully manual. I have been able to find a fan speed I enjoy and basically only ever adjust the temperature setting to get comfortable which typically isn't more than a degree or two of change at a time.

I live in NE Penn and I have to agree. It's a set and forget type system. I'm actually a big fan of it.

Sometimes I fight with it constantly turning on the compressor when I don't want the compressor on. It's hard to get just fresh air out the top vents without the system taking over doing anything, It annoys the hell out of me that the compressor wants to turn on when it's 50° out wasting fuel. I think Auto is the most useless. Pretty much never doing what I want it to do. My solution sometimes is just to shut the entire system off and open the windows. I would love it if there was a total manual override in the settings.
Like the old cable systems we used to have?

I like the auto settings and the dual control is great when you have a wife.
And I worked in wastewater plants, unless you have a tank of air to breathe from your gonna smell them.

Loved cable systems. I can't tell you how often I have stood on my head and torn up my hands replacing these stupid servo motors, sometimes the same motor multiple times because somehow It's better having a computer and cheap plastic electronics failing before you trade in a car. The cables used to get stiff after about 30 years and then you would go in there and lubricate them. The systems usually did exactly what you wanted to do When you wanted to do it.

tried auto on and auto off- AC still turns on, on it's own- may have to do with humidity sensor.
But if you have the heat turned up - there is no cold air even when it wants to remove some humidity.

Had an older friend that was used to old cars - he knew the defrost turned the AC on automatically on almost anything semi-recent - but he thought it had to be turned to cold air too for working well - he always froze his passengers out.
I'd try to sneak the temp slider over to heat when he wasn't looking. Worked just fine.

I agree with you about the cable systems, unless you get a kink in it.
I believe turning on the air conditioner dehumidify the cabin was instituted as a safety feature.
You had folks who didn't understand that the running the air conditioner even in the winter time would dehumidify and clear the foggy windows. I was in this category, when I was younger. 🤷‍♂️
OR
Then you have "wasting gas" cheap folks, who were damned to run their air conditioner in the winter time no matter how foggy the windows were. Just clearing a hole with a rag and keep driving.

I can understand how those with an EcoBoost notice the belt driven A/C compressor turning on, than us with the Hybrids and electric compressors.

Turn off the defroster and I think the floor vents. Then it will say on.
A/C systems have been like that for decades across many manufacturers.

It will not let you recirculate humid air when clearing windows.
