Headlight switch defaults to Auto every time you wake the vehicle. If you leave the vehicle with the switch on Off, it will return to Auto for your next drive. Auto highbeams can be disabled, defaulting to Auto headlights can not.

So, you know, you don't forget to turn your headlights on, which is easy to do with 1) auto lamps, and 2) an instrument cluster that is lit up all the time. The only cue to remind you your lamps are off is the little indicator lamp in the corner, which is easy to overlook, making it easy to forget to turn your headlights back on.

This is a good feature.
Never said this was not a good feature. I 100% understand how both systems work... Was just asking the OP to clarify his original post.

I dont like how the lights automatically dim when you slow down. Like you can see in the dark better when you slow down. We live on a gravel road, the brights dont come back on until 18 mph. I dont drive that fast to avoid stone chips in the paint.
It’s not possible to overdrive the low beams at 18-20 mph, is it?
I think my 2024 Eco Lariat brights activate at 30 mph.
Again at 30 I can easily stop within the low beams reach.

Are you sure you don’t need cloudy cataracts
removed ?
Before I had mine done I needed high beams at lower speeds also.
Just something to consider.

so, the question here would be if I had the HVAC just blowing air into the cabin, not in defrost/defog mode, will the AC automatically turn on? I don't think I've seen this but I also don't tend to use the HVAC unless it's really cold or really hot outside.

Yes, but at least in my situation I'm talking about tue behavior when the vehicle is started. So I can have the hvac completely off. When I turned it off, the ac was also set to off. Next time I start the vehicle the hvac it typically on again, and depending on the conditions the ac is also on. As I said earlier, I'd guess the hvac stays in the off state I had placed it in about 20% of the time, but the majority of the time the hvac is back on with the fan running.

I'll try to get a video at some point, though probably can't for a few days.

Yes i can just turn the high beams back on, but it should be drivers choice when turning or driving slow.we have alot of deer on our rural road. No cataracts so far at 66 years old!

You can manually turn them back on with the stalk. I have done it when looking for a driveway at someone's house on back roads. Gravel drives I can spot easy but a friend has an asphalt drive that is hard to see and deep ditch on each side. Very narrow driveway also.
EDIT: You can turn auto high beans off in the menus. Then you are in complete control when it is high or low.

Yep. I'm so used to it auto-ons that after a vehicle has been in the shop or somewhere where someone had the turned the knob to Off that I'd be the idiot driving without headlights til I noticed. That's why the default to auto-on is desirable to me. Protects me and has no downsides whatsoever.

That's why I miss the turn lights my 2014 Escape had or the fogs my 2022 Escape had. At the rate Ford is decontenting these Mavs, pretty soon they'll just come with just two candles in a holder just like the Flintstones.

Fellow Mav owners, if you are like me are tired of driving around with the windows open and your AC on because it goes on all the time, even if not in Auto mode, then take a couple of minutes and contact Ford. Maybe they will reconsider this stupid thing.

Same for automatic headlights that default to automatic every time you start the car. Unlike normal cars where you can select Auto headlights or to do it yourself.

If you also dislike these two features, you can contact Ford here and tell them. You can do it via chat too.

https://www.ford.com/help/contact/?srsltid=AfmBOopd74hFrmEqxb24i_HjAMHRK6jh0w-llOtB_2Tl-6H-qAPzkz7q

It might not work, but maybe if enough people say something they can fix that.

PS if you like these things, this thread is not for you! You will not lose them, if you want your AC on all the time day and night, in freezing weather or with your windows down, you can still have it by putting in AUTO AC mode. If you want your headlights always automatic, then you put it on auto once and never touch it again. Please don't clog this thread up with how you like it or lame explanations of why the AC should be on all the time. This thread is for those that don't appreciate this automation and lack of control.

Thank you.

It is drivers choice, just toggle auto headlights off. Do it with the headlight lever.
Easy peasy,
Toggles on and off without ever taking your hands off the steering wheel wheel.

My AC does not turn on by itself, unless it's set to auto. My headlights are always set to auto.

Sounding like thru many posts - the 25/26MY changes the behavior.
Ford probably thought they were reducing troubleshooting calls - doesn't sound like it.

Not only can the HVAC system which was turned off on last drive turn itself back on (since now onscreen right!) during next startup - the AC button will actually be pressed/lit.

Whereas prior-25MY the HVAC won't turn back on.
When HVAC actually turned on - The AC button being pressed seems a fluke if it happens.
But the AC can still be enabled without the button being pressed.

Besides the AC button pressed fluke I've seen a few times - more often I have the non-selected vent location fluke. Non-Dual climate control, combined only.
I do NOT use Auto mode on any regular basis - infrequently on long drives.
So normally I get fan to down 1, vent was already on upper only, temp was whatever, usually LO at this season so I get outside air.
Turn HVAC off before turning truck off. Notice my ending SOC%.
Next startup, turn HVAC on - and the vent selector has none selected. But the low fan, confirmed by going higher - is indeed on defrost. May be on foot too.
Push the upper vent selector, increase fan.
Again - non-dual climate control.

Also if you're coming out of a vehicle with a red/blue knob, you may be unfamiliar with the idea that a set temperature in a true climate control system affects both heating and cooling, so yeah if you've got it set at 60F to be a miser with the heat, it's probably gonna turn on AC if cab gets heated to 65 in the sun.
