One year ago yesterday, I parted ways with my 2010 Benz E550 (400hp V8) due to my current abundance of short trips.

I had seen a Maverick at the OC Auto Show in Anaheim and liked everything about it — and Ford had an offer to get $75 (?) for doing a test drive. Since I love free money, I was hooked lol.

Utility, size, mileage, looks, and modern tech. It reminded me of a GTI in a small truck. (My first new car was a first-gen GTI.) I loved the Cactus Gray and since they had the backup camera recall (new XL and XLT sales were on hold) — I ultimately went with the Lariat for the B&O, rear window, and other goodies.

So now I can reflect back on a great year of Mav Hybrid ownership. Just did the 10k service and all fine of course.

Did road trips to NorCal, Baja, and many points between. The craziest thing is consistently getting 500 miles per tank — that’s a ton of around-town trips!

Loves:
-I always have the “brake hold” on since my Benz had it — that was a must-have!
-Added a USB dongle to support Wireless CarPlay which works great.
-Adaptive CC and lane keep is great on those long stretches and helps me avoid big speeding tickets lol. (Adaptive does work best in Economy mode for softer - smoother acceleration.)
-Small enough to fit through traffic and obstacles that a Cowboy Cadillac never would lol.
- I also had to have a Sunroof — having all 6 windows wide open is awesome with my young son and his buddies. It still has huge hedroom — what a great design.
-Heated steering wheel — sure why not ha.
- Tow hitch and basic connector is awesome — used a couple times.
-Blackout package is sweet and stealthy
- Black vinyl interior looks great and only an issue on 90* days. The AC cooks the small interior fast — just like my old 911 ha.
-Driving electric mode in the neighborhood and parking lots
-Added matching tint on the fr

For whatever reason the forum software lost some of my notes and pics but you get the idea ha.

As far as nits, not much but on long drives I wish for a longer seat base with adjustable thighs support. The Mav front seats are just a little short it seems.
Also why are there not any carpeted mat upgrades around? I can’t even find fitting carpeted rear mats at all lol.
Otherwise I’m super happy — and have probably added 5-10 new Mav owners right ha. Peace all.

(This App is killing me or is AWS down again ha.)
Front shot, the blackout package is a nice touch with this color.
You guys may have seen the interview with the Maverick design team. Hopefully they’re all still working for Ford, really a visionary small truck for these times.

I find the seats a bit too small as well, particularly the width. Thigh bolsters would be very nice. I'm 200 lbs., and 5'10", so I don't think it's me.

Good post. I have a question: I would like to be able to randomly tell my Mav to play a certain song. Any song, any time. Like Alexa. Can I set this up and if so how? I’m definitely willing to pay. Thanks.

I have a question for hybrid owners. Having an ecoboost I don't know the answer. I've seen a lot of complaints from auto journalists about how noisy hybrid engines are when pushed hard (which is probably not often). They especially complain about Atkinson Cycle engines, which are very popular in hybrids.

So it's a question I ask you folks. Because I'm debating whether my next Maverick should be another ecoboost or a hybrid. Please don't answer if you've never stomped it.

To reiterate the question, because so many people on MTC seem to lack reading comprehension skills. WHEN YOU PUSH HARD, is your hybrid engine noisy and annoying? Or is it a quiet little mouse? Us ecoboost owners are curious.

Having had both engines (2013 2.0 Fusion ST and a 2023 Maverick Lariat Hybrid), I'd say the sound is comparable. My Fusion had the twin-turbo Spanish engine, and was a lot quicker than the current EcoBoost model, but used a lot more fuel getting there. If you care about fuel costs, the Hybrid most of the time gets twice the mileage of the EcoBoost, and almost 4x as good as my twin turbo Fusion. Some people with the lower trim levels have no soundproofing foam inserted in the fenders of lower trim levels of the EcoBoost to mute the injector noise, but that's pretty easy to add. Idling, the EcoBoost makes a lot of high-pressure injection pump noise, while the Hybrid makes just a light humming noise with the engine off. Both of them make a lot of noise when you floor it. They're both quick when you floor it - much quicker than most 70's and 80's muscle cars. The seat-of-the-pants feel is totally different between the two however, so if you want a rush when you floor it, the 2.0 is more fun. The Hybrid just gets the job done and is only slightly slower doing it. If you pull a trailer or haul a high load, the engine takes a while to get it up to speed and drones somewhat getting there. The 1-speed transmission of the Hybrid keeps the engine a the same speed a lot more, so it sounds completely different than the 8-speed slamming through the gears on the EcoBoost.

I've had my hybrid Lariat almost 3 yrs. The engine is quiet, and the one speed is butter smooth. There is no drone. I love it.

In normal driving my hybrid engine is fairly quiet. However, I admit that under heavy acceleration it is somewhat loud. And there is the engine drone since the engine revs up to one speed and hangs there until you back off the accelerator. But that's not normal driving other than when I'm doing it on purpose, passing on a two-lane road or quickly merging on a fast moving interstate. I can easily live with it though. In daily driving I don't notice any difference

Is it noisier, yes. Is it a nice sound, not really. I will say it sounds better than my wife’s Lexus NX hybrid. But it’s only noticeable when you’re flooring it. As soon as you let off it’s a surprisingly quiet vehicle. I guess it just depends on your tolerance for short, infrequent bursts of sounds.

I have had my Lariat Hybrid now for 8 months and 25,000 km. I have driven from coast to coast and back. The sound of the engine to my ears is not louder more than different.

With the hybrid, the engine under software control, increases speed until it produces enough power for the current driving conditions. There are no gear changes so the engine RPM remains constant. Some call this a drone, I personally do not have a problem with this, as I understand why. Some reviewers especially TFL make a big deal of this. More of a tempest in a teapot from my point of view.

Ok, time for someone to stick up for the ‘Boosts’. Yes mine does sound like the proverbial sewing machine when started and driving cold. However when fully warmed up, it is quiet. When I come home and park in the garage it’s so quiet that I have to look at the tach to see if I didn’t stall it, seriously!

Uphill on the interstate? (I bought mine in Denver and drove it back to New Mexico) Yes it is LOUD. 99.5% of the rest of the time? Fairly quiet, I never find it really intrusive and that's with the XL (which I'm told lacks the sound deadening of higher trim levels.) I can hear it cycling between electric and hybrid at times but just background noise really. I've got the stock stereo and I never really turn it up higher than about 30% on the volume.

My FIL remarked how quiet it was the first time he rode in it.

To be honest I've heard / read reviewers talking about this...and I scratch my head. I ordered mine (pre-production) & bought one of the 1st "2022 First Edition Lariat" Hybrid Mav's and to this day could not be happier! I lived in SoCal when it was finally delivered, so I have a lot of freeway driving at both higher (California!) "SPEEDS" & crawling thru miles of stop & go traffic. Now to be honest I'm not a muscle car guy: although, I'm former USMC "Airwing" & am comfortable with extremely loud engines, I want a comfortable drive and I have never noticed the engine sound to be a problem. However, I have noticed what I assume is the Re-Gen Noice, especially when coming down from higher speeds. I've done many mountain drives in the Sierra Nevada when I was in CA. I now live in ID and do a lot more exploring thru mountains, dirt & snowy roads. Driven a couple of time to Tacoma WA during a winter storm advisory thru the mountains and had a wonderful experience. Maybe b/c my Mav has the Acoustic front windshield & the B&O stereo system I just don't notice it... :)
