I hear, understand, but still have a question. How is it that the cams made today need such a sensitive 'break in' compared to cams coming off the assembly line back in 1939, 1964, and 1987, to pick arbitrarily?
I read of new cams, new lifters, running @2k for 20 minutes, etc, and then blammo, a tappet eats a lobe... Waaaahhhh!. Could it be the newer cams are not finished as well as in the past? Could the tappet/lifter faces be non-hardened or whatever makes them work in shear not be done properly? Never heard of so many cam failures as in the recent past.
As far as driving from Granger in a brand new vehicle, IMO, a long drive would give the best break-in. IF, you vary the speed. If you put it in cruise, and forget it, I am not sure it is as good as manually changing speed on an irregular basis. I liked to change speed on a quarter hour or so interval. Accelerate gently to 10mph faster, take my foot off the gas pedal, and let the engine coast and pull a good vacuum. Hopefully, no guarantee, there would be a bit of oil pulled up on the cylinder walls to lube and cool, and to give them a short respite from hard work. I could be out to lunch, but that's what I would recommend to any new purchaser.

Chinesium flat tappets. Buy only hylift Johnson flat tappets, made in USA, or go roller. Comp cams sells cam saver lifters but I'm not sure what the deal is with them. I have 2 sets of USA made old flat tappet lifters ready for my 2 latest mopar builds.

Now, for the big question: If I were to order from you, how long would it take to get a Maverick? If you could get one (hybrid XLT) within a month I would come right over there from Illinois.
I can 100% guarantee that it won't be here in a month. 🙂

Yup. Thought I'd ask for the hell of it. Abandon all hope.

Yup. I guess the old rule applies.
Good, Fast, Cheap: Pick two
I use that analogy at work all the time. Most of the time they want it good, and fast, so it's never cheap. I get overtime out of those deals.

This isn’t directly related to my Maverick purchase, but I thought it was an interesting and somewhat sad story about the current state of new car buying.

A friend of mine was doing work for a guy who really wanted to buy a new truck but was complaining that, despite living in one of the largest metro areas in the country, every single dealership he went to was terrible. He told my friend that he was about to give up on buying new since he was unwilling to give those dealerships any money.

My friend told him that I had recently bought some kind of truck from a place in Iowa and had it go smoothly, so the guy asked my friend for the contact information for the salesman I had dealt with at the dealership. He said he only wanted to deal with the same person I dealt with since he’d had too many bad experiences. Despite having to drive halfway across the country to get the truck he ended up buying one and was very happy with how things went.

It’s interesting to me that this guy was so fed up with just the treatment he received, not even the price, when trying to buy a new truck that he was willing to spend 12 hours driving to get it and also that he had to find out about Granger from the friend of some guy who did some work for him.

Spring pressure, pedestal mount rockers, roller cams, and pushrod deflection.

My wife wants to try mine out, but I havent gotten it yet. Tentative build date is 08/15 I would love to order a hybrid for her, but shes really on the fence about until she drives mine 😢
Since she might have to wait a year, just order one in her intended configuration when the order banks open. If she drives yours and hates it, you're only out a small deposit.

Not a big deal, for me. I've taken time off work and driven hundreds of miles to go pick up a vehicle I've gotten on favorable terms (price, customer service, unique configuration, etc.) and intend to continue to do so.

It seems the majority of companies have forgotten this. It's not as easy in the short term, but there is always good money in running a clean honest business.

I'm not sure if it's been asked yet, if so my apologies. Will you be offering a similar deal on the '23 orders? ie..3% under msrp?

It was 3% below invoice not MSRP :) They have said they will do something similar, but not likely as good - I've seen they offer 1% below invoice on other models, which is still a great deal in this buying climate.
