It's easy to get short trips with good MPG. People who live on a mountain and drive down to the valley might be able to do all electric on the way down, but the way back up will more than offset that.
Payload and towing capacity are not the same thing. If you have a trailer that weighs 2000lbs and put 15% on the hitch that's 300lbs plus your 750lbs of people is 1050lbs, which is less than the 1500lbs of payload capacity that a Hybrid XLT has.
12V x 35AH = 420 watt hours, not watts. The battery has 470 CCA and 12V x 470 A = 5640 watts. Obviously that can't be sustained for long, but the batter can put the sustained 1500 watts is only 125 amps and with a 1500 watt inverter it's unlikely he'll be hitting the max the whole time. I...
This isn’t directly related to my Maverick purchase, but I thought it was an interesting and somewhat sad story about the current state of new car buying.
A friend of mine was doing work for a guy who really wanted to buy a new truck but was complaining that, despite living in one of the...
I don't expect any more than I get from the electric motors. My original post was a response to someone saying that the electric motors are the same as in a previous generation of the powertrain and should have lots of power.
I once went down a very long hill and before I reached the end of...
I don't want more torque overall. When I push the gas pedal the truck has so much more power than any other vehicle I've had. The lack of torque is only in pure electric mode. Even in eco mode the power response and switch from electric to hybrid are great.
I have about 6000 miles on my hybrid and have had many instances where it seems to have a hard time making a smooth transition from regenerative braking to standard braking when I'm gently decelerating. It seems worse when the car has been sitting for a day or so which makes me wonder if it is...
I saw that, but when I use the electric motor it doesn't act like it has that much torque. I don't think Ford would spend the extra money to put a powerful electric motor and then not make it usable. Maybe the battery can't supply enough power to maximize the motor's potential so it only puts...
I'm guessing that the torque isn't listed because it's very low. Even on level ground the acceleration from only electric power is slow. If it really had close to the torque of the ICE it would have no trouble getting up to speed. If I want to drive in electric mode this truck is by far the...
I did a few hundred miles of driving on I-80 and I-90 through the Rockies and got 34 MPG. It seemed like going from 75 to 80 was pretty bad for mileage, so if you're willing to go 75 or 70 I think you could do better. If you're not driving in the mountains and against the wind I think that...
As another data point, I drove about 600 miles from Granger, IA to Rapid City, SD and averaged 27.1 MPG. It started out better, but the wind seemed to really hurt at interstate speeds and there was a lot of wind along the way.
It's good to hear that you were able to work with McKie. I had a hard time getting any information about pricing, but maybe I was talking to the wrong people.
I had my build date moved to 11/15 so now I'm right there with you pushing an end of year delivery. Maybe we'll be the first Mavericks...
West River, near Rapid City. I ordered from Granger since the local dealer was painful to deal with, so I’m hoping for good weather on the 8 hour drive to pick it up. I’ve never been east of the Missouri in South Dakota, so it will be nice to drive some new roads.
What about the cost of insurance when you finance? If you pay cash you won’t be required to have anything more than the minimum required by law, but I haven’t seen any financing that doesn’t require much more than that.
