That, and to keep debris and dust out of the blower motor rotating assembly too.Main benefit of the filter I think is to keep the evaporator clean.
Same here. K &N cabin filter. I clean it once or twice a year, spray it with their spray which also makes the car smell good, pop it back in and you’re good to go.Do you ever turn off your HVAC? Many people don't, even if they drive with windows open. If you don't, that's an incredibly high volume of air running through that filter non-stop for 20K miles.
I drive most of spring, summer, and fall with windows down, HVAC off. I have a K&N reusable in my HVAC, and while I clean it annually, it always looks pretty clean, as it's probably the equivalent of about 8-10k miles of actual use, even tho I drive 20K/year.
Mine will be thrown out and not replaced. Iam 65 years old, we never had cabin filters. how is the air filtered to the cabin when you roll your window down? Unless its crucial to blower longevity, do you know if it is? If so curious how the blower is still working in my 54 year old antique without a filter.Changed my cabin filter for the first time in my 24' with 21,600 miles. Which I believe is 1600 mi over the recommended interval I mainly drive all highway, very little city and on construction sites.
This is the filthiest cabin filter I've ever seen after a tick over 20,000 miles.

So this is something for newer vehicles? And cool you recognized me lol. I guess after 3 years on this forum some people will look familiar. I also have two 16 year old dodges. Cabin filters never replaced and everything is fine.i am concerned its a money grab. But thats just me.You've been posting this same thing for years in here.
My eight year old vehicle back in the early 2000's had no cabin filter and the evaporator got clogged up with dust/pollen that led it to develop pinhole leaks. The entire dash had to come off down to the firewall to replace.
Cabin filters are primarily designed to protect the evaporator and associated components of the HVAC system just like the one in your house.
Well if they have cabin filters already, the only downside to not replacing them is reduced airflow from the blower ports. So this is something for newer vehicles? And cool you recognized me lol.
