See the highlighting in the post above... it's more commonly the drivers themselves that are unsafe on the road, not the stuff they're driving. I've seen the nicest & newest vehicles ever with distracted inattentive drivers at the wheel. Texting, talking on the phone, navigating a touchscreen (because all the knobs have been taken away), and so on. These people are way more common and more dangerous than an underinflated tire.
I agree with that as it's easy to observe.

However, if you follow the "Just Rolled In" fb page you'll see a very common occurrence of rusted-out older vehicles and truly amazing things with brakes, hubs, ball joints, etc.

there are some very scary unroadworthy vehicles out there. my state does not have inspections and they say it's manpower (it's done by the highway patrol), but I have a strong feeling that it also would feel like a punishment against lower income brackets to inspect and ban their vehicles from the road. plus many of them would drive anyway, just illegally.

anyway, totally agree. vehicles overall aren't that unsafe. drivers are unsafe.

Well, pooh! I guess I'll take it my 315Mhz 2022 TPMS and install a set of Autel dual frequency programmable TPMS. I have an Autel programer but it won't read Schrader on my Superduty, so I'll likely have to use forscan to get their codes to clone from my OE wheels. Sadly, my lifetime license from forscan didn't transfer to my new laptop. Argh! I'll try using my Harbor Freight manual bead breaker to pull the tire bead down. Damn, so much extra work. Perhaps I'll pay the $20 each at a shop to swap them and document the sensor codes to clone?

Well shit. That causes some drama for all of us who have winter tires from prior years. I have a set of tires that have 315's in them that I guess I am going to need to have a tire shop un-mount from the rims, replace the sensors, and re-mount on the rims. Super lame.
Tire shop should be able to break the bead, push the bead down & remove then replace the TPMS without dismounting tire. If the tire person was taught correctly that is.

I poked a small hole in a sidewall. I wanted to boot it añd put a tube in it. The TPMS won't work with a tube. Go figure. I recall my old uncles talking about not being able to get tires during the depression. They would take the wheels off their Model T, pack the tires with wheat, soak them in water over night so the wheat would swell, and that would get them to town and back. They were not going 80. I guess we can't do that anymore.

I believe Ford changed from 315Mhz to 433Mhz. I had seen where it was supposed to happen sometime in the '24 model year but haven't heard of it actually happening. Sounds like it did for '25.

If you want to buy new sensors, I'd recommend the Schrader EZ Sensor. They are programmable for 315 or 433 and a lot cheaper than OEM. But Schrader does make them for Ford, so they are good quality. Part #33500 is about $25 each. Just need to make sure your installer has a programmer for Schrader if you're going to buy them on your own.
Ummm, a set of 4 of those was installed with my new 18" Bronco Sport take-off wheels.... Worked fine for a few weeks then started having intermittent failures.. Eventually 1 or 2 or all of them would reconnect on a long drive. Now three months later none of them work. Took the truck to Ford dealer in Nogales... they couldn't wake them up at all.... Pulled a tire to verify what they were... yes, Schrader EZ 33500s (those accept 315 or 433 programming). They wanted $450 to replace all four with motorcraft oem units... No thanks, I'll live with the TPMS warning on the dash for a bit longer...

So, either my Schraders at on the shelf for years, exhausting their batteries, or they were counterfiet cheap chinese knockoffs... Go figure...

I'd bet they were counterfeit. Lots of them out there. It's unfortunate but happens. My own have 6k miles and months on them so far without skipping a beat.

There are some creative alternative ways to break a bead (without a tire machine). Check youtube for some solutions and use your judgement if it looks safe. I’ve seen people drive onto 2x4 boards or use a vehicle jack to pop one. Just make sure the valve stem is 180 degrees away from the apparatus you are using so you don’t accidentally whack the sensor while popping the bead.

Agreed. But I want to add some food for thought here.

But it feels to me like our reliance on tech doesn't make us safer. It more commonly feels like it erodes our good safe driving habits because, hey, why be concerned with it if the vehicle does it for me? For example - how many of us w/ Co-Pilot 360 can say we still turn our head to look over our shoulder when changing lanes? Or who still looks over the other shoulder when backing up when you can just look at the camera view in the monitor in the dash?

Perhaps all the safety gear is good to have on the vehicles of the bad inattentive drivers because it just might keep ME safer from them.

Interesting side-rant: with that back up cam image freeze problem that needs to be fixed, it's a safety feature that has caused accidents. Can't be much more ironic.

Yes, that's important. But until then, the most important safety feature in my car is the driver. It's always enabled, especially when I take on the responsibility and don't depend on the tech to do it for me. The way I always have. But I do realize that this will vary by generation since the youngest drivers will grow up relying on the tech and will never develop the situational awareness, alertness, and care that the older generations did in all their years of driving.

Sorry to derail the thread. Guess I'm trying to say I'm not that concerned about a few psi.
That was a tl;dr if I've ever seen one. Not that I disagree but jeez man...

You just said what I said with extra steps. I'm advocating for inspections and such and obviously, the driver is and always will be the largest variable in the equation.

And none of it changes WHY I commented the way I did about the subject of removing the feature via forscan for future buyers. Which is something we've seen come up in questions on forums from new owners of used vehicles.

Are we really going to justify $80 TPMS sensors being a deal breaker in a $30k vehicle? Or on any new set of $1k tires? One set and it's over with. Seems a lot easier than the alternative having to use forscan to avoid warning messages. Right? (Consider the average person before you answer that - not the 1% of us comfortable with using programs like forscan)

Real "I don't need no stinking seatbelt" vibes from some posters in this thread. You are definitely free to make life harder than it has to be.

Do you know or have experience with the #33500 sensors? I have been researching and get conflicting answers, some say they will work and others say no. Hope you can help me out on this. Thanks

Yes- I haven't on my 24 and they work perfect. No experience on a 25.
