Swapping 2025 Larait 19s for XLT 17s… 2024? 2025? TPMS question.

Hello all.
I hope to pick up my 25 Larait this week. I’m not a fan of the 19” wheels. I’d prefer the 17” wheels off an XLT. I asked the dealer but they’re not interested in swapping for me when I get the truck. I guess I’ll be looking to swap with someone with an XLT that likes the 19s after I get home with the truck. I have questions…

I assume the TPMS needs to be programmed for any new wheels and tires that I swap over to.

1. Is this something that can only be done at a shop or dealer? I didn’t see any steps to do learn or setup tire pressure monitoring in the manual.

2. Will the XLT TPMS sensor from a 2022-2024 work with a 25 or would they have to be 25s? Looking for a definitive answer?

3. I guessing that I could ask $$$ for the swap assuming the tires on the 17s are near new, but no real feel what sort of premium up charge I should ask if someone wanted to trade.

I swapped mine with a member here. Discount tire will do it for $40 each. The TPMS sensors should work fine as it communicates wireless and syncs to your vehicle after calibration. I too asked my dealer and it wasn't something they were interested in

I just found on another thread that the sensors are different for the 2025 model year. I guess I either need to find some 2025 XLT wheels or have a shop swap the wheels + the sensors. Suddenly it's become a little more complicated.

Wow that is crazy! I would make a post and be patient or lookout on the classifieds for some new take offs, but this would mean selling yours seperatly.

Yep, the TPMS sensors in the 25's work at a different frequency than previous models. The older models run at 315 MHz and the 25's run at 433 MHz

minimal advantages ( maybe longer range? ) but I suspect the 433 mhz devices which are more popular in Europe may have been cheaper for Ford to procure and integrate with sync 4. I can image a bean counter saying if we use a cheaper 433 mhz TPMS sub system from somewhereastan we can save 1.25 per truck!!!

The TPMS is not a big deal but be aware 2025 uses 433 MHz now so the tire shop needs to be able to provide the sensors and program for that. My shop did not have a 25 listed on their calibrator but was able to program as a 24 Maverick and it worked fine. The bigger problem I faced with 17” wheels was the speedo was out a lot and it was going to chew through my warranty faster. I reprogrammed with Forscan and corrected this. It was a fight though as the tire diameter was smaller than allowed in the computer. After lots of struggle with error codes I just drove it with the codes and it finally recognized the smaller diameter. I just had to ignore the codes for a while and then clear them.

Same boat. I don't like the 19" wheels and wanted to swap for some 17" wheels from a previous year but the TPMS sensors likely just have me selling them all together.

However I have come to realize my Lariat AWD doesn't need super aggressive AT tires because it is not meant to be far off the beaten path, if at all.

Also note that I believe if one gets the exterior wireless keypad that it also uses a different frequency for the '25s as for previous yeas, so make sure that if you get one that it's for the '25s.

I wonder if it is possible to keep the speedo the same by getting a different aspect ratio tire with the 17s? Meaning a taller sidewall to compensate for the smaller wheel? I don't know the answer.

The 17 inch wheels + tire combo should be nearly the same overall diameter as the 19 inch wheels + tire as the 17 inch tires have a larger sidewall to make up the difference ( should provide a softer ride and less prone to pothole damage). If you used the recommended tire sizes there should not have been any appreciative difference is speedometer reading.

Tall sidewalls can roll more in the corners. I’m not sure how tall you can go either.
