I am posting this because it may help others that may run into the same issue I had with new TPMS for my 2025. I recently picked up a very slightly used winter tire/wheel set off of marketplace. The seller had previously purchased them for his wife’s 2024 Escape PHEV, which for whatever reason, they traded in on a Rivian, hence why they were selling them. As I suspected, the wheels had 315mhz sensors, and the 2025 requires 433mhz. I purchased a set of TPMS from Rockauto and swapped them into the wheels. The TPMS are BH Sens brand and advertised as preprogrammed, only needing to do a relearn procedure. This is where my frustration began, as I could not get the new TPMS activated. I was entering relearn mode by turning on the ignition and pressing the hazard button 6 times. The horn would honk and the display would indicate to train the front left sensor first. I have a Ford TPMS19 activation tool, and held it near the valve stem, and nothing, I then tried all the wheels, by reentering learn mode and treating them all as the front left tire, still nothing. I thought maybe my old TPMS activation tool maybe didn’t work with 433mhz sensors? I rolled over one of the OEM wheels and tried the relearn again on that wheel, and the horn honked, indicating the tool works. After some online research, I then tried the “letting air out of the tire” during training mode, and still nothing. Then I tried “letting air out of the tire” while simultaneously pressing the button on the activation tool, and still nothing.
Moving on, someone had suggested the sensors needed to be woken up first, by driving the vehicle, and that they may even “pair” up on their own, but they did not. After driving long enough to trigger the TPMS error light, I returned home, and tried all of the procedures listed above, again nothing. I was getting ready to initiate a return to Rockauto, when I thought I would scour the interwebs again for a possible solution. I came across a post on a Ford Transit forum where someone was having the same issues I was having, but eventually was successful. The poster wrote that they had heard from a Ford technician that the entering “relearn” mode using the hazard button method, was only for relearning the positions of already “paired” TPMS sensors, and that one has to enter the relearn mode thru combinations of brake pedal press and ignition on/off, in order to activate new sensors. I thought, WTH, I’ll give that a try, and BAM, they all paired right away with the activation tool.
So, for anyone else having a difficult time “learning” new TPMS sensors to a 2025, you need to use the relearn mode thru “combinations of brake pedal press and ignition on/off”, and not the “hazard button” method. Even though the display looks the same while doing it both ways, they are apparently different.
For those curious what the “combinations of brake pedal press and ignition on/off” method is, these are the steps:

For those curious what the “combinations of brake pedal press and ignition on/off” method is, these are the steps:
- With the ignition off, press and hold the brake pedal for 3 seconds and release
- Turn the ignition on and then off 3 times, ending with the ignition on
- Next, press and hold the brake pedal for 3 seconds and release again
- Next, turn the ignition off, followed by turning the ignition on and then off 3 times, ending with the ignition on, and the horn should honk and the display should show the relearn procedure and indicate to train the front left tire first
