Good question. I have a 23 and have not installed a catch can and dont plan to.its my understanding they come with one from the factory.
They definitely don't come from the factory with a catch can because the catch can needs to be checked and emptied routinely. Not something customers will do.

All I know is that my prev 24 did not have a catch can when purchased new 2 years ago
The factory system doesn't look like a typical " can " setup. But functions as a " catch can" to deal with the unburned oil.

Its my understanding its not a " can" that you see and empty, but a system to take care of the unburned oil. Iam sure someone will jump in and explain it better than I can.

Well that’s not a catch can then.

Is it more like an Air/Oil separator?

I have learned that my 25 engine comes with a completely redesigned fuel delivery system. It is an ECU controlled direct and port injection system. The direct injection system is used at higher loads and speeds where the vapors get forced through under very high pressure. The port injection is suited for idle.. I had a mechanic from Ford tell me to use 5W-30 full synthetic if you are aiming for longevity, also change the oil every 5000 miles. He recommended not using a catch can on this engine. Also he recommended eliminating the auto start / stop with an aftermarket cable.

I probably will follow his advice.

Ford Maverick 2025 New Ecoboost engine 1767854998208-c0

Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System
The PCV system circulates crankcase gases through the intake air system into the engine where they are burned. The PCV system regulates the amount of ventilated air and blowby gases to the intake manifold.
The PCV system equipped with a removable PCV valve, a PCV valve integral to the valve cover, or a crankcase ventilation oil separator, as part of the PCV system. The PCV system on some vehicles will include a crankcase pressure sensor to detect a disconnection of the fresh air hose.
The PCV systems comply with OBD PCV monitoring requirements to prevent accidental disconnection from the valve cover. For more information about the PCV monitor and crankcase pressure sensor, refer to PCV SystemMonitor in this section.

I have a 25 Maverick and I disabled the auto stop/start with ForScan. You can check the ForScan subsection under the Tech section on the this forum for more info.

The new 2025+ EB now has a MAF sensor in addition to the MAP sensors fyi…

I read on this forum that the Maverick EB does not have a Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) but only uses a Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP).

However, the instructions for changing the air filter on my 2025 call for disconnecting the clip on the MAP (easy once you figure it out).

Per AI:

“ **No, the 2024 Ford Maverick EcoBoost does not have both a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) and a MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor like the redesigned 2025 EcoBoost.**

The pre-refresh Maverick (2022-2024 models with the 2.0L EcoBoost) uses a **speed-density** system. It relies on **two MAP sensors** (one typically on the intake manifold and one on the intercooler/charge pipe for boost pressure measurement) rather than a traditional MAF sensor for air flow calculation. Forum discussions from Maverick owners and tuners confirm this explicitly: the 2022-2024 2.0L EcoBoost does not use a MAF sensor; it uses a pair of MAP sensors instead. While some parts listings or videos mention MAF in general EcoBoost contexts (often for other engines or models), specific Maverick EcoBoost references (including air filter replacement guides and tuning threads) show no MAF in the intake tract for these years.

The 2025 Maverick received a **major redesign** of the 2.0L EcoBoost engine (sometimes called the "MPC" or Modular Power Cylinder variant), with changes including updated turbo, valve timing, bore/stroke optimization, multi-port + direct injection in some contexts, and emissions hardware like a gasoline particulate filter. This refresh shifted the engine to incorporate a **MAF sensor** (often integrated with IAT) in the air intake assembly, alongside MAP/boost pressure sensors (including one on the manifold and one post-intercooler). Parts catalogs list a specific MAF for the 2025 Maverick 2.0L, and tuning/install discussions (e.g., JB4) refer to the MAF separately from the MAP/boost sensors. This aligns with the question's reference to the "2025 redesigned EcoBoost" having both.

In summary:

- **2024 Maverick EcoBoost**: MAP sensors (dual/twin setup), no MAF (speed-density tune).

- **2025 Maverick EcoBoost**: Both MAP (or equivalent boost pressure sensors) and MAF (mass air flow for the updated system).

This change likely supports the engine's refinements for efficiency, emissions, and performance in the refreshed model. If you're troubleshooting, modding, or comparing for purchase, check official Ford service manuals or a dealer for your specific VIN to confirm sensor configs.”

MPC was a complete redesign to the Ecoboost engine. GPF's were only used in job 3 builds of 2025 and beyond. I assume all 2026 Ecoboost's have the GPF. Ford has never detailed all the changes made to the MPC design. Never mentioned in any ads or brochures.
