Quite a few posters in this thread have reproduced the stated conditions without getting the foamy oil cap, so it's not an inevitability. It's difficult to trust that it's not harming the function of the oil itself when in that state... there a quite a few posters here that refuse to trust the oil life monitor and insist on a 500 mile break-in change, and then every 3,000 miles regardless of oil life. I'd be interested in their reaction to seeing it on their cap 😄
I think it would be a great excuse to get a new truck.
I’d wipe the cap clean and trade up so fast it would scare my wife.
My first oil change was at 2,000
I do full synthetic and 5,000 mile intervals for my turbo.
If I had no turbo 10,000 mile intervals like I did with my Taco.
Took that motor to 528,000 trouble free miles.
3,000 mile intervals are for those that use roach oil.
In my Not so humble opinion.

This is after four days of short in town trips. So it's pretty normal on the short trips. I get the highway drive in every other week.
What kind of oil are you using, and at what mileage on it was this shot taken?

Just filled both coolant tanks up to the line. Yep - a drop since last time.
Of course it'll drop a bit when put under pressure - which it was somewhat when I opened the cap.
Got a pic for the service writer.
Trip to AR again this weekend - so good timing.

Checked the area around the HVB exhaust heater - nothing currently wet. Can't see signs of anything due to exposed to road water lately.

Also attached the front of the undershield correctly after the axle replacement - they got it wrong, striped a few screw nuts.

The Ecoboost 2.0 was notorious for gulping coolant and blowing engines (Ecoboom) until the redesign used in the original Maverick EB and refreshed in 2025.

The Atkinson in our Hybrids have never suffered from coolant intrusion as far as I know - which is not very far admittedly:)

Actually Ford redesign the 2.0 EchoBoost around 2015 by elimimanting coolant passage between clyinder #2 and #3, Then 2025 EchoBoost was redesign again for direct fuel injection.

I use motorcraft full synthetic. The truck has 10k, the oil had about 6k.
Not to start oil wars, but I use Ford synthetic blend in my mustang (185k) and expedition(210k). My 1950 flathead gets Kendall racing oil.

I need to start popping the oil fill cap off during fillups when I check the oil dipstick.
Or in this case, even at the 20k inspection that occurred about 300 miles before the oil/filter change.
At which time I had to refill the engine coolant tank from mid-level. Which was mid-level again by the oil/filter change. Hmmm.

Never had anything show up on the dipstick.
Nothing in the old oil showed a thing.
Went thru last years winter and the oil change didn't have this in Apr.
But service writer said - nah, normal condensation, he's seen it on his F250.
Really?

Guess I'll have to wait until coolant drops more, and this shows up again - to get their attention.
I've never had this in a vehicle, and many oil/filter changes ended up being the same time of year for the same potential.

Changed my oil in January after ~10k miles from previous change and had some of that in the cap. A bit less than what you have, though. Coolant in the forward tank was down to the low line too but I don't remember if Ford topped it off during the last oil change. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

I'm assuming these things are worse because of the (very) cold weather.

I don't think you have a head gasket issue or anything coolant related...its just a cold spot where moisture condenses around the cap and the oil vapor rising from the crankcase "mixes" with it and forms that nasty emulsification.
I had a Ram that had lot of that stuff under the cap.
Just gotta get that engine hot...especially once the weather gets cold out.

That was indeed the agreement in many posts in the last 2 pages of the thread.

Glad to hear other makes do it too.

My last fillup check, showed some new crema started despite vast majority warm days, very few below freezing, especially when driving.
And coolant just a bit down from complete fillup.
So actually I am watching that carefully.

Feb 20th to Mar 7th. ICE coolant only, not the HVB coolant. Couple long highway drives in warm temps, up to operating temp.

Common on all types of combustion engines that operate in cold weather short driving conditions. See this all the time at the shop, nothing to worry about unless it's on the dipstick and loosing coolant.

Cold climate drivers should put in fresh oil before the first freeze and then again after the last freeze? Minimize then eliminate the milkshake?

And then in those cases - cold and short are defined by the design of the valve cover and oil fill location.
That's what I've determined from pictures of other engines.

Cover that loses heat easily, oil cap extended out hitting air flow, I could even see a bad thermostat allowing cooler engine than desired, other factors - may mean not so cold or short are required.
Just cool enough to condensate on plastic.

Can't decide whether I live in the Shire or Mordor, but in the historical record here we can freeze any day between Labor Day and 4th of July. Typically it's from around 9/25 to 6/15.
