Which is why I don't think those who have an order in for a 2023 should discount the possibility of getting one depopulated key. It's better to be aware of that possibility and informed when you walk in the dealership to purchase the Maverick you've waited months for instead of just being blindsided with the fact that you are being given one depopulated key. At least if you're informed you could maybe work something out with your dealer to provide a second fully functioning key at their expense or something along those lines since it was changed after orders were made. I'm not saying they'd do it but you never know and it's better to be informed rather than just dismiss this.

Exactly. Which is why we were trying to make it clear that this is a possibility. Not that it's a sure thing. That's what you keep arguing against...

Thanks for the info. I had a 2022 with a VIN that got canceled and rolled to 2023. Last week I got scheduled for build week of Jan 9. My order is XLT Lux, but I left off remote start when my dealer resubmitted it.

What’s your opinion on this? Do you expect this to only affect new orders, or do you think it will affect orders that are already submitted/scheduled?

To know for sure, you'll have to wait until you get a window sticker.

The order guide was updated Nov 30th. So I'd say that orders scheduled after that time may be affected.

There has been no message about this on FMCDealer (which there usually is when they make a change like this), so maybe the order guide was updated to include that code in case a chip shortage makes that change necessary?

If Ford does make a change like that after you submitted the order, Ford requires the dealership to have you sign a form acknowledging the change with language like this:

By providing my signature below, I understand and agree as follows:​

• This vehicle is not equipped with the above checked feature(s), and this will not constitute a defect with respect to my vehicle​

So by signing, you are agreeing that you accept the change.

That doesn't mean that the dealer wouldn't do something for you (but there's not a lot of motivation for them to do so.....especially if you are buying @ MSRP!)

I think I got this right, and how it may work on the 1 key vs 2 key outcome.

I mean, fob based remote start is an option you can add to an XLT for 2023. They just split it out of the Lux package.

But you having two functional fobs without that feature does mean this is something Ford hasn't implemented.

2 fully functional keys unless you see a line item for the keys on your window sticker. All reports to date indicate 2 fully functional keys; this change (which would only result from supply chain shortages) has yet to be needed. 99% chance 2 fully functional keys.

I did this with my dodge caravan and programmed it myself without going to locksmith or dealer.
I did it with 2 keys and made a third.

However If you don't go to a dealer wouldn't you have to go to a locksmith and pay 300 bucks anyway? I don't know if owners can make a third key themselves as I did the caravan

Yes owners can create third key. There was a post awhile back by someone, locksmith I think, who also referred to which after market keys were compatible with the Mavericks key fobs. There were also instructions on where to place the two keys you have and then the third key. Search for thread.
