We've been kind of holding out for our 23 Maverick Hybrid Lariat Lux order. But started watching some of the newly released videos of the 2024 Ranger. You have to have the Maverick Hybrid to flat tow and the 4x4 Ranger to do the same thing. We can pull either one behind our motorhome. Other than the price increase from Ford just wondered what your thoughts were between the two trucks. Gas mileage would suffer on the ranger. Thoughts?

Agree.

Have you considered just leaving an order open for both? You really don't have to make a decision until one of them is on the lot and that might be a while for both options.

I may just try my luck with a 2024 Mav if my 2023 never gets built. My dealer already has a build and order configuration page on their website for the 2024 but it's based on the 23 configuration. But at lease they are trying to get a jumpstart on the order banks opening in July.

If you don't get a MY23 I'm just thinking MY24 has to be better.

Big price difference between the two, and the non-hybrid version of the Ranger is a showstopper for us. After 1+ years driving the Maverick I don't think we will get another vehicle to eventually replace our F-150 until we find a good hybrid we like, that gets outstanding mileage.

We've owned two 2015 Honda Hybrids and a 2023 MItsubishi Outlander PHEV. All have been outstanding vehicles with great mileage and reliability. We did sell one of the Honda hybrids to purchase the Mitsubishi and got almost what we paid for it new. We really like the hybrids.

And if you decide you want the Ranger, you may be able to flip the Maverick for more than what you pay.

Go over to R6G and look for the MY24 flat-tow threads, there's a good possibility that the '24 is not going to work for you.

In my case, I ran the A/Z-Plan numbers on a 24 Ranger yesterday, comparable to my EB Mav, and with the extra $1K incentive, I may just get one on order.

I ordered a 2024 Ranger to tow behind our motorhome. But according to several threads on R6G the 2024 Ranger will NOT be flat towable. That is unofficial but I can find nothing to confirm or deny.

Guess I need to cancel that order.

really comes down to what you need more- 4x4 or better gas mileage.

We fill up so infrequently that we don't even remember when our last fillup was. We get 38mpg without even trying. When you get all the way down to 1/4 tank and you still have 168miles till empty it kind of boggles the mind!

That's interesting because the Bronco can be flat towed and since it's built on a Ranger platform I would have thought the same for the Ranger.

Me too. As well as my salesman when I ordered. But I noticed a thread on R6G that said no. Something with the brake system because as you point out the engine and tranny are used on the Bronco. I had my salesman contact Ford today and he verified that the 2024 Ranger owners manual specifically states it CANNOT be flat towed. Which is a huge disappointment.

Now I have to figure out what I want to do now. Order another Maverick and wait and hope? Pick up a 2023 Ranger? Something else?

As another here mentioned, there's a massive price gap for a comparable version between the two.
IE, an XLT Ranger vs XLT Maverick is gonna run about $10k more--and with that you lose a lot of fuel efficiency, so much higher cost to refuel as well.

Don't get me wrong, the Ranger looks like a pretty decent mid-size truck for if you want to do larger-scale "truck" things on a much more consistent basis, or if you need more off-road capability. Also, the Ranger will have slightly nicer interior and probably has more "upgraded" features available--but those will also quickly skyrocket the price difference.

The Maverick is hands-down a better daily/around-town driver. The Ranger is the better choice if you can afford it and you plan to make sem-consistent use of the additional off-road or expanded utility capabilities it offers.

All boils down to your exact scenario. My perspective is that the majority of people would probably be slightly better suited by a Maverick vs a Ranger, but it's not a massive difference outside cost to own and operate.

If this were between the Mav and an F-150 I think it would be a far more straight-forward choice--F-150 is serious overkill for like 90% of people vs the Maverick or Ranger IMO.
