Ecoboost or Hybrid?

I own a 23 XL Hybrid that I am very happy. I am considering buying another one for work and am not sure whether to get the ecoboost or Hybrid. I will be adding a topper or ladder rack and carrying ladders and some tool boxes. Is it worth the extra power and loss of MPG to get the ecoboost? Which one has the more reliable powertrain?

Casey, I can't speak to which has a more reliable powetrain, but wondered if you were responsible for the fuel costs, since you said it was for work?

If you're reimbursed for fuel costs, fuel mileage might be eliminated from the equation, but if you make more money when your fuel mileage is higher, then that might be a consideration.

One gallon saved each hour could be considered a $3(?) per hour raise, possibly?

What do you value more, power or fuel economy? The Ecoboost is simpler, and thus far seems to have had fewer recalls than the hybrid. But if you want to maximize range and fuel economy, go with the hybrid.

Ecoboost could have been better in some cases before with 4K tow and awd.
Now that hybrid has both I would never consider the ecoboost. Especially if you happen to be in a state that will have a GPF on the ecoboost.

The eco-boost is much more reliable less recalls less issues and the extra power is fun.

I’m not convinced it’s more reliable. A bit more power though if that’s what you’re after. Personally if I was after performance I think I’d skip the mav altogether.

Certainly sounds like a use case for a FWD 2.0 turbo XL model. Unless you're really going to be in Atlanta and not on the highway, then could get a Hybrid.

Since you already own a Hybrid you should have a good idea if it's capable of doing what you want to do with a work vehicle.

If you're unsure just throw some weight on it that will approximate your work load and see how it performs.

I am always a little confused by this rationale… I have a 24 Lariat Hybrid that has had one software recall (shared with the EcoBoost) and I have the 12V battery issue but never had a problem starting my truck. Is it time to admit the newer Hybrids are is just as reliable as the same model year EcoBoosts?

Just read threads about recalls and problems people are having. Hybrids dominate the conversation. But hopefully ford will get a handle on that.

By following this site the hybrid seems to have more problems.
