I've seen several posts here where people say they thought they were getting "X" but they got or just learned that they get "Y". This applies to people who ordered a Maverick as well as bought off the dealers lot.

Examples I've seen include -

I thought the XL had cruise control
I thought the Maverick had a CD player
I thought the Maverick had built in navigation
I thought the XLT had Sirius XM
I thought the Lariat without Lux had active cruise control
I thought my hybrid got a full size spare without buying copilot 360
I thought the full size spare option was the same size as the other 4 tires

There's probably more, but these are what I can recall right now.

The question is how does this happen?

Is Ford's online information not clear enough? It does take some digging, that's for sure.

Are the dealership sales people not doing a good job of learning everything the customer wants and explaining the options and or packages required to get them? There are some poor sales people out there unfortunately.

Is the customer not doing their due diligence before handing out $20-30K or more?

I thought I had done good research and I did know all of the above except I learned about the faux full size spare tire here on this forum.

How can this lack of information in the age of information that we live in be improved?

I'd say some improvement of complete (and correct) information on the Ford build and price website would benefit the most.

What say you?

The CD question I can answer. When you look at the dash area, it looks like there is a CD slot there. When I first saw it, I wondered why any new vehicle would include on anymore. I wasn't the only one. On several sites, there were people asking if that was a CD slot.

Some of it is people basing the features on what is standard on other vehicles. Cars (and crossovers) in particular which tend to be more equipped than their truck counterparts. Another is expectations on what a feature includes on other Fords. CoPilot 360 is a big one here where often it includes ACC. Although sometimes there's a CoPilot 360 2.0 required for ACC.

Ford launched the Maverick as a cheap vehicle when material costs are at a premium and in particular anything tech-heavy. So there clearly were some strategic choices made in what is standard, what is optional, and what you need to go up in trim to access.

Also reviewers can add some confusion as they don't necessarily pore over the fine details of the option guide; they work off the notes Ford gives them and what they experience. So sometimes they might mix up what features are standard or a given option includes.

There was information that just wasn't correct like when power passenger seats or rear window defrost were originally listed features. Or some still aren't clearly enumerated like the difference between the base Connected Touch Radio and the Lariat Lux's Sync 3, Bluetooth phone connectivity (favoring CarPlay/AA), or CP360 power mirrors on the XL.

It's this one. To understand what you get, you need to look at the lower trims and determine the differences. Making assumptions leads to disappointments

Most of the posts I've seen of this nature are from people who learn these things during their research and aren't happy about it. I have seen a couple who were actually surprised at delivery, but not many.

Agreed. I was surprised there was no HomeLink transmitter on the visor (I have had those for decades I think), but surprised only during ordering and looking through the specs. Then again I'll probably be surprised by something else when I (eventually) take delivery.

Some of it is based on customer expectations (no cruise control in a 2022 model? Really?), some of it is based on lies from Ford (removing the fullsize spare tire as part of the Lux packages, lying about it being fullsize), and some of it is due to dealerships not investing in their employees.

Sad but true; I knew (and probably know) more about what the Hybrid XLT LUX with CoPilot360 has than my dealer. I find it interesting that Long MacArthur Ford YouTube videos prove the information was available to dealers, but it appears they really dropped the ball..

I think it’s because most people are too lazy to read a few bullet points, they just make assumptions.

When was the last time a manufacturer put a cd player in a car? 1998?
1998 was closer to the first time, when I ordered my 2004 I had to specify a CD player because a cassette player was still standard, ok so my 1990 Allante has a CD player, but that was an exceptionally expensive car. I was still looking at a Ridgeline for the 2019 model year & a CD player was an option. I will be getting one of those CD players that plug into the USB for my Maverick.

I ripped all of my cd's years ago. They all fit onto an sd card that is in my phone. When you want music just connect the phone to the car via bluetooth and play on the phone's music app. You have your entire cd collection at your fingertips. They can't get lost, broken or stolen since there is a copy on the computer, too.

I made a wrong choice when I was looking at the alloy wheels but thought they were the unique alum wheels. So I will be getting the black uniques, not that big a deal because I like those also. I called a couple of days after submitting the order but I was super lucky and was scheduled the day after submitting so the dealer rep said I couldn’t make a change.
