Dear Ford,
My 2023 Maverick is vehicle number 52 for me. Twenty-one have been Fords, 16 have been General Motors and 16 have been others. My current Maverick is actually my second Maverick. 40% of my vehicles have been Ford products. If I take out the cars I bought for my wife and kids, that percentage goes almost to half.
My 2022 XL had issues and my 2023 has had the same issues (really Ford, you didn’t fix known issues?) I replaced my 2022 XL mostly because I wanted copilot 360 and some XLT features my XL didn’t have and I wanted to get rid of that blue plastic interior – I ordered the black appearance package which was pictured on the Ford website as a totally black interior. In reality, not even the seats are black, much less the plastic parts.
Most recently, I was backing into a parking space – thank God I still rely on mirrors versus electronics as I would have hit the vehicle behind me because the back-up camera was on a few seconds’ delay. I understand there is a recall for that, but no remedy to correct the issue. Both Mavericks have gone into “deep sleep” mode several times. I am fortunate I have not had the no start condition, but it’s still no fun climbing into a totally dark vehicle at night – hard to find the ignition switch – and see if the boogie man is hiding.
Issues (not in any priority order nor a complete list):
I have serious doubts this Maverick will last for ten years. My 2014 Mazda Miata has had zero issues. My two Rangers only had airbag issues. I still laugh at the automobile manufactures that bought Takata Airbags – I worked at a US Airbag manufacturer in the 90’s and we were beat out of sales by pennies on the airbag by Takata. Ours were never recalled. The best I can remember is my Maverick is the leader in recalls to date and it’s not convenient to get them fixed.

- Interior lights that may or may not illuminate depending on the BMS
- A driver’s door that locks with a mind of its own
- Rear doors hold water in the channel and dump water into the interior when it’s raining
- Rattles from various places
- Wiper blades you can’t clean under unless they are in the upright position when you turn them off
- Brake lights that may or may not illuminate
- 12-volt pigtails and outlets that don’t maintain power when the vehicle is turned off
- A bed that allows water to intrude even with a factory tonneau cover
- Really, really soft interior plastic that scratches beyond easy - there are already more scratches in the interior my 2023 Maverick than there were in the 2009 Ranger I had for more than a decade.
