I've been watching this forum pretty religiously in anticipation of my truck arriving. I've mostly been trying to be on the lookout for quality issues that multiple people are reporting, but it's seemed generally pretty positive.

My truck shipped 10/9, and was scheduled to arrive today. My dealer, when I reached out to them, reported the same as my tracker was showing. This morning, I received the following email from Ford. For them to suddenly bump delivery on a truck that is built and should already be here, I'm suspicious that there's an issue with current builds that they need to look into before they release the truck to me/the dealer. Has anyone else received a similar message or heard anything that may be related? I'm grateful for a built truck, but it does nobody any good if it's just being stored someplace. I'm kinda pissed that they waited till the last possible moment to send this update along, too...

Here's a dirty secret of the car business: if brand new vehicle is damaged in transit or at the dealership, it is going to get fixed and the customer will never be told about it.

I’m sorry for you, that really sucks. Ford clearly knew it wasn’t going to be here, unless of course the rail line screwed up the transport. But thankfully your truck is darn close to being in your driveway. Good luck!

Frustrating to say the least. I would be heated from this and there is nothing you can do. File a complaint with the GM and Ford marketing at 800-334-4375 and see if you can get some Ford points for compensation. If I was in this position my car would already be sold and it would be though for my family to juggle only having 1 car.

They must have found something wrong with it. Maybe it doesn’t have all the chips, or missing a bigger component.

Man, I HATE to hear that, but it's got to be that if it's not a bigger quality problem, right? I'll 100% be contacting Ford to try and get some answers today.

Thanks for the number. I've been borrowing my in-laws extra vehicle for a month or so since I got rid of my Jeep. But that was never meant to be long term, as I've had the built status for a month now.

My biggest fear is that it happens again come December. I can't keep playing this waiting game indefinitely.

If it's just been in "built" status for a month I would imagine that means it never left the plant, so it's probably some quality concern being addressed. If it were already shipped and got pushed back a month that would scream transport damage. Either way, not great but if it were mine, I'd rather the plant keep it for an extra few weeks to make sure it's sorted rather than hiding transport damage. Curious what Ford tells you, keep us updated!

Yeah will do. I'll see what I learn. I was hoping that it wasn't a widespread email that everyone got. So far it seems isolated - nobody else has responded having the same news at least.

There's another thread on this site that decodes your window sticker and you can tell if it was shipped already and even find the exact train car it was shipped on. It also gives information on how to contact CSX for you to call and find out exactly where the train is.

As others have mentioned, if it has not left the plant, then it is most likely just a quality check or update. If it left already, then your mind can't help but think it may be transport damage. There is also the likelihood it got mixed up and sent to the wrong destination, so it may not be a worst case scenario.

Well that it not always true they may not tell you but alot of time you can find out. I have vin searched new cars before and there will show a record of damage around the time it was delivered. When I bought a used semi truck from a private seller I had the local deal run a a search on it. Showed a code for body work being done when it was delivered.

That is a disturbing update for sure. I would say you are likely correct in your assumption, that it may have failed to pass final inspection. But hey, the bright side with that theory is, it ought to be fine working order when it does arrive.

Your totally right to be pissed about the timing of the notice. That truly sucks!

My issue with that is that I shouldn't have gotten any notice of shipping, nor should it have been scheduled to arrive today (per the tracker and discussion with my dealer) if it had somehow never left the plant. I agree, generally, I'd rather have them fix issues before I take delivery than have to keep bringing it in.

dealer has access to train info, there is a way to see if it got on a train. read bottom section of this:

I hadn't wanted to mess with all the CSX tracking. It seemed complicated and any knowledge I gained wouldn't matter or help me anyway. Now that this has happened, though, I'm going to be looking into the CSX side of things to try and figure out what happened. Do you know if the dealer will necessarily be able to provide the rail info that I'll need? I sort of asked last time I called them and they said they only know what I know. Car number and such aren't on the window sticker, correct?

Will damage before delivery always be reflected in a car report like that? Even if it's fixed, I don't know that I'm interested in paying sticker price for a truck with repaired damage showing on its vehicle history already...I would have thought that if it was in manufacturer's hands the whole time they'd just fix it and say nothing to anyone about it. They'd be able to do that easily if I as a buyer didn't start questioning the process because of this red flag in the timeline.
