Manual states oil must be changed at least yearly.

If you do not, you will lose significant warranty coverage IMO.

So I would go by OCI OR yearly, whichever comes first.

At my dealers recommendation had my first oil change at 3500 miles and am using the oil life remaining guide for the second. Plan on scheduling it at 25 %.

I got my 24 XLT hybrid early June. It has less than 1,000 miles on it right now. I expect by December to hit around 1,800. This is typical for how much we drive. Should I base when to do first oil change on time rather milage? I have free oil changes for life from the dealer but I'm thinking they will base it milage. I don't mind paying for it.
I'd go by the factory recommendation of 5000 miles.but if you don't drive much I'd change once a year.

I did first oil change at 1,134 miles, cheap insurance to remove any metal filings that might be in new engine. After that I get oil change every 5,000 miles.

1st: 500 miles
2nd: 2,500 miles
3rd: 5,000 miles

After that, follow these guidelines:

  • Every 5,000 miles (or sooner) if you're using Ford's blend oil.
  • Every 7,000-9,000 miles if you're using 100% synthetic oil, such as AMSOIL (Note: This is different from "fully synthetic" oils commonly found in stores).

Anyone here get free oil changes from Dealer? Usually that's standard on new vehicles. My dealer didn't.

I did my first oil change at 4,600 miles and 10 months owned. oil life had about 25% left and the oil was still pretty clean.

If you plan to keep the truck long term, you should do your very first oil change at around 1000 miles to get all the metal shards out. Then, depending on if you actually have a winter will determine how long you can wait for the next one.

California? Follow the oil life indicator no problem. If you actually have a winter, change your oil around the 40% left mark

That oil doesn't look 'dirty' at oil. You can tell absolutely nothing about oil condition from looking at it drain, rubbing it between your fingers or smelling it.
