I got my 24 XLT hybrid early June. It has less than 1,000 miles on it right now. I expect by December to hit around 1,800. This is typical for how much we drive. Should I base when to do first oil change on time rather milage? I have free oil changes for life from the dealer but I'm thinking they will base it milage. I don't mind paying for it.

What is your oil life remaining percentage on your Ford App? You are asking a question that has no definitive answer. Personally, I have the oil changed when the oil life remaining is in the lower 30% range.

This question opens up to a lot of answers. The answer I have is "when you feel it is the right time." You'll understand my simple response once you receive a large trail of answers in this thread. All of them will be good and insightful, but you will have to read them all and make your own final decision.

My two cents for what it's worth. I took delivery in April. Just had first oil change at 1,800 miles, 60% oil life. Used the Fordpass points. Figured I'd start using them before they expire in 18 months. Better safe than sorry.

That's what I'm leaning towards too. Thanks.

You say you have " I have free oil changes for life from the dealer " Ask the dealer what the oil changes are based on, Time? Mileage? or a combination of time and or mileage? Then make your decision. Just don't exceed Ford's specs to keep your warranty.
In my case, I have the Ford Maintenance Plan. It was written up as every 6 months or 8000 km (5000miles). This also includes tire rotation and a complete inspection.

Then it's already estimating by time at this rate.
That's just over a year - which the manual says could happen.
And if some of those trips you drive it real hard - that estimate could change.

Pay attention to recommendations since you have a hybrid maybe using the ICE 60% of the time. Actual miles on the engine effecting oil is much less.
Comments from Eco owners may not apply.

Yeah we are getting around 40 MPG. Here in Tucson the AC is pretty much always on.

In my hybrid XLT LUX I had my first oil change on the 364th day of ownership when my oil monitor said to at 964 miles. Last week I had my oil changed just under the end of the 2nd year at 2,622.9 miles. The hybrid lariat with just over 32k miles get its oil changed every 7,000 miles oil life will shor about 40% remaining.

My two sense. Change your oil now...In fact, I bought my 22 EB Lariat used with 21k miles and with a week I had all the fluids changed including the ptu and rdu. Cost $750 but now I know all fluids are new and has the correct fill.
