Factory Continental Tires Already Worn?

Dealership recommended I look into purchasing new tires for my 2024 XLT EB. I have 4561 miles on the truck and they informed me that the tires have over 65% wear. I noticed the rapid wearing of the tire myself, but I have never used Continental tires before as I am a Firestone tire type of guy. I drive pretty hard compared to most drivers, high speed cornering, sudden acceleration and stopping, etc. The front tires show the most wear in the middle of the tread. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Basically, I need to know if it is actual tire wear based on how I drive, or are Continental tires just really bad quality. Thanks all

Factory tires have less tread even compared to what you can buy at a tire store, same exact model. If I remember reading, most get about 20k out of them.

Well, the factory continentals only have 8/32 of an inch of tread to start with. So, in terms of tread life, they've already got a year or two of wear on them.

I never knew that. The Mav is the first vehicle that wasn't bought for me by parents or given to me. This is my first ever brand new vehicle purchase. Again though, I haven't even broken 5k miles and the tires are worn past 50 percent

Your style of driving is hard on tires, I resemble that lol, especially tires that are not all that great to start with.

I'm real curious to what air pressure you're running as center wear can be a symptom of over inflation. Knowing your pressures could help me set mine. I'm running 2# below spec since I run light loading.

The slightly used Bronco Sport Contis I bought had more tread than the Contis on my new 2024 Maverick.

The answer is yes and yes.
The OEM Continental tires are not a great tire and wear fast. However, they shouldn't need replacing at 4561 miles. On FWD vehicles the front tires do all the work, so the front tires wear fast. It doesn't help if you have a lead foot and peel out. My FWD Maverick EcoBoost will spin the front tires if floored when doing 20+ mph. Also, you mentioned the center tread on the front tires are wearing faster. As someone already mentioned that normally is a result of overinflating the tires. Maybe try changing the drive mode from sport to eco. lol

I assume the dealer has rotated the tires and checked tire pressure to help even out the wear.

It's your hard driving style that's wearing the tires out so fast I have a little over 3,800 mi on my 24 XLT and my tires still look like new. But I don't drive it like I stole it, I drive it like I'm paying for it even though I already did.

No not really.

They "appear" to the novice to wear quickly at first but then last a long time.

My "dealer" told me the same at 7k.

I'm now happily at 30,000 miles on the stock tires and perfectly legal and safe for on-highway street use. Sure, it's a truck and a lot of trucks have knobby tires. But knobby tires or deep groove tires are not needed for street use.

What are your driving conditions?
These are 35,000 mile tires.

I've had a larger than "recommended" trailer behind me for 8k of those 30k miles.

And I haul. A LOT.
I've had 1300 - 1400 lbs in the bed for 4k of those 30k miles.

They are at 4/32" now.

Ridiculous, now we have tires w shrinkflation? What’s next windshield wipers that get 10 wipes? My 1977 Accord 1st brand new car for me) got over 80k on original Bridgestones- was so happy I bought same tires to replace them but only got 50k miles- so thought the opposite of this thread where originals are better than replacements- in a fair world they should simply be the same tires, it’s not like they disclose some difference. what a difference 40 yrs makes !

I purposely seek out Continental tires. I put them on my Trailblazer and my Buick. I think they're among the best tires out there but to each their own. I'm going on year 3 with no concerning wear - it might be your driving.

They are trying to pull a fast one over on you. 21,000 miles on our 23 EcoBoost with the factory continentals and they look like new. Heck I have the factory tires on my 15 year old ram still and they look new with 40,000 miles on them. I'd find a new dealer.

Dealerships are there to make money in my opinion. 65% wear with low mileage seams like they want to sell you new ones. Check the tread depth yourself and see if they actually are 65% worn. Check center and as well as the side tread. After reading your post I checked mine and they are still at 8/32 with 9k miles. After checking your tread depth, re-post with your findings.

They are supposed to tell you that the tires need to be replaced as well as anything else they can up sale you on. If they are actually worn out then it's an operator error caused by a loose nut between the seat and steering wheel.
