Been driving dodge caravan for 14 years. Never replaced the gasket for the drain plug on oil changes. Never leaked.

Maybe the gasket on the maverick is not as good. I changed the oil yesterday and it good pliable with no cracks. This is the first oil change.

Do any of you change your drain plug gasket (even it looks good}?

Only once in 53 years of owning and driving during my first Honda oil change.

I changed it every time on my Volvo with an aluminum crush washer. I think our Toyota comes with a new one in the oil filter box.

Ford engine oil drain plugs have an integral rubber o-ring and not a separate gasket. They last for a lot of drains before they need to be replaced.

My 2012 Focus with 148K miles still has the one from the factory with no leaks.

You did confirm what I was considering. Nice to know and nice for you to take the time to tell me.

That doesn't surprise me.

I changed the drain plug on my 2002 Explorer just because I thought it was getting a bit old and not because of a leak.

No need to change each time. It’s rubber seal. It will last years. If a copper or aluminum ring then you should change it each time. Honda for example..

Also you can get just the rubber insert from ford parts. As long as you don’t strip the metal part, it will be ok.

I've also noticed differences between my ram and caravan and our maverick. Same oil pan gasket bolt on our 15 year old vehicles. Also tranny fluid and filter never changed at 166,000 miles since it is " lifetime" tans shifts like new still.

Nice to know. I did for the last 5 yrs on van pump out qrt of tranny fluid once a year to renew the enzymes that come within the tranny fluid.

Hope the ford ends up as good as our vans. I will sell maverick before my 3rd yr of ownership do to the expense to repair modules, sensors, ac etc. if it ever comes to the surface
