" I learned to drive in 1987 on a 64 Chevy with a 3-speed on the column and every time I get into the Maverick I accidently grab the wiper stalk and try to put it into first. And I'm always slamming my left foot on the floorboard when I go to put on the high beams."

See how stupid that sounds? That's how I feel every time I read an article that whines about the rotary shifter. It's just different, OK? Can we move on?

I love the dial shifter! However, I wish the Lariat trim level had the heads-up display, auto wipers and electric folding side mirrors.

I don't mind Jalopnik when they write fair and unbiased pieces, or cover something factual but their opinion pieces always feel like something an 11th grader wrote.

I LOVE my 23 Ford XL (F-50) Mavericks 42 to 44 MPG.
The only thing I don't like is the yucky wheels...

You, friend, would have the first $50,000> MSRP Maverick.

I’ve grown to like the dial shifter. I imagine it’s much cheaper than a mechanical gear shifter T handle. That’s probably the main reason it was chosen. I’ll admit that I didn’t care for it at first but it grew on me pretty quick.

I do admit that dial has caused me a problem or two over time.

I have these features in my Mazda CX-5 along with leather seats and trim, AC for all seats, etc. for less than $35,000. Ford should be able to do this for under $40,000.

I'd trade my adaptive Cruise Cntrl for ventilated front seats & rain sensing wipers in a heartbeat.
I would also LOVE to have one that did not have a loud rattle over the passenger above the headliner.

really?? I know consider the source I LIKE the shifter I can grab my mate and get fresh with out that stick in the way
But really this one part really sucks??
How about the crummy seats and the lack luster sound (Im parroting numerous posters here)
The Maverick is fine for me Its a vehicle that fits where I am

took me 2 days to get used to the shifter - it hasn't been any concern for almost 2 years. my base XL seats are fine - no complaints. The radio is basic stuff, i was happy to have a touch screen, it produces ok sound , nobody expects to have a 'listening room' at 21K (.22). It was designed and priced as a low cost good looking vehicle - it exceeded my expectations.

My wife actually loves the seats (it's her vehicle) and I don't find the stereo so bad that I would put money into upgrading. I remember a time when OEM stereos were actually terrible.

When I went to the Ford dealership, I told the salesman I wasn't interested in anything with a shift knob...

He asked me if I've ever tried one???

After owning my maverick for a year, I must admit, I'm a true knob lover...

My complaint is the location of the mode selection and emergency brake buttons.

They keep getting slathered with white castles onions-

Premium packages could probably stand premium seating, but my bargain XL seats are "good enough". If your seats are really a problem, you could always send them to a custom upholstery shop and have them totally rebuilt or perhaps see if Lincoln Corsair seats can be swapped in. I'd think they have to be better than the Maverick basic construction.

I'm fast and loose going from reverse to drive. Drive to reverse I just shift more carefully just like I would with most transmissions because you have to make sure to not end up in N or P.
