I ordered the Maverick Lariat First Edition back in the first week of June and still don’t know when mine will get assembled. So, frustrated I actually found the same truck for sale 200 miles away and put 500 down (will already be there for work). Today I test drove a Maverick XLT just to check it out. I liked it. I just didn’t love like I wanted to (can’t put my finger on it). I’m afraid the cab will be too small for my two kids and I’m afraid that I’ll eventually hate all the plastic. I drive a Golf right now but used to have an old ranger. Looking for something with a decent ride on the highway.

Can you help me make my mind?

My options are:
Maverick Lariat First Edition in Area 51. X plan pricing
Ridge line RTLE in modern steel
Frontier with employee discount

There are too many unknown variables for us to advise you. Everyone has different values.

The golf is a really fun car, and a truck will have much different dynamics.

For the price of a first edition you might as well buy the most comfortable option. Sounds like buyers remorse waiting to happen on the Maverick.

If money is no object and you want a "highway truck" than I would get the ridgline.

If you want a truck for truckish stuff like offroading etc etc get the frontier.

If you want the best value for the $$ and MPG, get the maverick.

I was in the same situation as you and eventually decided on the maverick. The ridgeline was my number 2 option but the difference in price was the deciding factor. The frontier reminds me of a Tacoma and I hated the seats in the Tacoma.

Unfortunately VW is going to stop selling the Golf in the US from what I've heard. I like a hatchback but it seems like all the US manufacturers want to get rid of small cars or cars in general. I think the Mazda 6 and Honda Civic are the only 2 hatchback cars.

There is the Toyota Corolla hatchback too, as well as the Prius.

The Maverick is a compelling option at no more than $30,000. My build rang up to $29,300 at Chapman and that's the absolute limit.

I'm assuming the FE Lariat you're looking at is more like $35-36k? At that point, I'd go with one of the other options. I've voted for the Frontier.

did you drive your other 2 options and apply the same standard of needing to "feel the love"? Have you sat in all front and rear seating positions to confirm roominess? I can't believe the Maverick rear seats are any more cramped than either the Golf or old Ranger? Remember, the Maverick is a compact size vs. the Ridgeline and Frontier MID size trucks, and while you can get an employee discount on Frontier it is body on frame with rougher ride and worst MPG of your 3 choices.
Good Luck!

Maverick for sure. If Tacoma were an option, may be a close call.

I appreciate the feedback.

A little more background. Looking for something with more room than the golf for the kids. I’m not going to haul much in the truck just looking for more of a Swiss Army knife and versatile truck for running the kids around or projects around the house.

Torn between the Maverick and the Ridgieline. The water leak issues on the Honda make me nervous.

Anyone know if the first edition Maverick comes with the upgrades sound system?

I went from owning a Frontier, to a Tacoma and now to the Maverick. I do miss the Tacoma. If you like the ride and isolation/ruggedness of a truck get the Frontier (it does not have the seating issue of the Tacoma). If you want to spend a bunch of money on a minivan without the people hauling capability, get the Ridgeline. If you want an affordable, efficient city truck to run around in that rides like a compact SUV, get the Maverick. Just get a base XL or XLT otherwise you missing the point of this vehicle.
