Is the replacement engine from the same year or from a newer model?

As far as is known, the engines have never changed, so the long block assembly is identical. Presumably just better quality control on polishing the parts, etc.

If your maverick affected wouldn’t they send out a letter to you specifically? With the affected VIN attached?
If you have an at risk VIN, it is already in your Ford Pass. I deleted my VIN, but this is what looks like.

There was a period of time where Ford noted bearing issues. This is a good assurance that if you got one with bad bearings, you will be covered. My 2023 falls into this time window, my 2024 does not.

I think this was the subject of an earlier notice with no solution. IIRC, this issue was really the basis of the active shutter vane removal to help prevent fires caused by folks coninuing to drive when they had literally thrown a rod and were leaking oil as they continued (for a short while) under electric power, spewing more oil into the area to catch fire. Hard for me to believe that you could throw a rod and not notice....
The extension of the power train warranty for this reason is a good thing...but I doubt there will actually be a need for many block replacements. Good for Ford for acknowledging the narrow issue.
"Good for Ford for acknowledging". They have known about it for two years and just now are making a commitment to do something about it.

I appreciate that they have gone this direction for the rod bearing issue. I don't believe that they had to extend the warranty for this problem, merely satisfy the NHSTA that all reasonable steps were taken to prevent injury with the recalls. Also good that they will install a long block if it arises.

Cheers.

My last post got deleted for “name calling” lol.
my opinion on this is no one should be defending ford. They have known about this for 2 years and tried to get away with just cutting holes in the cover under your engine. That way when your rod bearing failed and sent oil pouring out of your engine they hoped the oil wouldn’t pool up and burn you and your truck to the ground. Obviously that wasn’t good enough so for about a year they had another recall pending an actual fix. So they let you drive around for a year while they avoided the inevitable engine replacement. Well now it’s here, and in the form of a CSP and not a recall. I am convinced this is the cause of the noise that made hybrid Mavericks sound like diesel tractors, as well as certain escapes. Ford should not be defended for this. They tried every possible route to avoid doing this.
this is my first ford and will definitely be my last.

My dealer applied for an expedited engine from Ford before this was issued. I've been notified since then that my truck has the noted issue.

My question is whether this is an unfortunate blunder at the factory, or a sign there are systemic QC issues. I've been struggling to decide whether to dump the truck or stick it out.

Does anyone know if they are offering an extended powertrain warranty on the replacement engines?

What were your symptoms that determined your need for the new engine?

Random loss of engine power during driving. Along with various codes, including P1061

But this engine swap happened after they already replaced the timing chain components, and knock sensors. It's been a pain.

Most people are likely still within the original powertrain warranty.

Agreed. The same people defending Ford for this, are the same people who blast KIA, Honda or Toyota for having similar issues, the hypocrisy is simply amusing.

I'm no Ford fanboy by any stretch, they completely dropped the ball on the serious braking issue my truck had, and the battery issue.
Mine did the damper shudder a couple of times, but not since the software update. Bad rod bearings don't come and go. Curious, have you heard of, or seen a picture of, a hybrid Maverick with a hole in the side of the block?
Toyota approached a similar safety issue with our Prius inverter exactly the same way, so don't buy one of them.

Cheers.

Love your speculation. I don't see Ford trying to avoid engine replacement. What I see is that they performed recalls to avoid fires while they determined, to the best of the abilities, to identify a proper solution.
