I think the hybrid is really what makes the maverick special. I wish it was AWD like the RAV4 hybrid which uses a smaller secondary battery to temporarily power the rear wheels but what can you do?
Agreed. I think the hybrid is where the value is, but I can't help but be a bit interested in the 2.0 liter turbo, AWD, and FX4. 🤔

I have a 2006 F150 super crew. It gets really bad gas mileage but it’s super handy when I need a truck. It’s actually over kill for what and when I need it.

Since it’s terrible on gas I’m using my Mustang which gets better gas mileage but I’d like to keep the miles low on it and use it for days off/weekends.

I’ve been considering replacing the F150 but wasn’t sure what to get. I like having a truck for the times I need one but not interested in getting a full size again. I like the Ranger but it’s a little too expensive.

We still have a 13’ Prius C that used to be mine and now it’s the wife’s so I actually like a hybrid. When I heard about the Maverick with the hybrid I was happy so I can replace my truck with a truck that gets great gas mileage is reasonably priced and use it for my daily driver/errand runner with occasional light truck duty.

I have driven a Ridgeline since 2010 and love the uni body AWD design. I have been waiting for someone else to make a uni body truck and have been following automotive rumors/news for years now. Was surprised that Ford was first to come out with a great design without design limitations (Honda, Huyndai).

Don’t get too excited. The AWD system is on demand meaning that 99.9% of the time you’re going to be driving FWD. The rear wheels only kick in when the front loses traction. It’s not like you can hit a button and it goes into AWD mode. As far as I’m concerned the FX4 package is just a way for ford to part people from more money. This is not an off-road truck and it never will be no matter how many skid plates and 0.3 inch lifts they install. I know Ford put it through a lot of rough testing to make sure it would hold up but anyone that’s actually into off-roading would tell you that buying a unibody vehicle for off-roading is a fools errand. The body on frame design and the separation of bed from cab that a normal truck has allows for a lot of flex in the vehicle. That same torsion applied to a unibody construction like the maverick can mean irreparable damage. The maverick will handle your basic two track trails which is what most people consider off-roading but it could never go over landing and off trail unless the ground is relatively flat. The skid plates that come on the FX4 package just make no sense to me other than to market to people who want to pretend they’re driving an off-road vehicle. Where would you possibly be taking a unibody vehicle that you would need skid plates? Imagine if Toyota started offering an off-road package on the RAV4. You would think it’s silly. The FX4 package on the maverick is no different. I think Ford had to make it an option no matter how silly it is just to make sure people think of it as a truck first and a unibody vehicle based of the bronco sport second.

Totally agree, I went with the Tow pkg which has the upgraded radiator and tranny cooling. Only real difference is the skid plates and a decal. (yes, it has another 'mode', big deal). I feel it is a redundant unessesary accessory and I would never take it on the Rubicon trail. lol

I go out of my way to block advertisements so I did not see any ads for this truck.

I looked around for various used electric/hybrid cars but prices were sky-high and I decided to look at new instead. I've always been loyal to Honda and Toyota but they didn't have anything compelling. I was curious about what other brands had to offer so snooped around various car brand websites. Ford's website was the final one I landed on and the Maverick stuck out to me.

I was initially hesitant about getting a Ford because of reliability. I ended up lurking on Reddit and MTC and read up on others concerns with reliability and people's responses. That gave me the confidence to pull the trigger on placing an order.

I went to the dealership investigating the lightning; that's when the seed got planted. Didn't order for a week or two of investigating. Doesn't seem like they need advertising, though.

I live in the MidWest and as of yet, have not seen one network ad. Yes, saw it on YouTube, but not tv. I originally heard (November of last year) about the Mav from my Sister who worked for Ford Corporate and leaked it out to me, knowing I love the small trucks. I am old school and do not do any social media except the dreaded Facebook. Curious how my new found Maverick friends originally heard about this little gem? Have they aired the commercials (networks) in other parts of the Country?
I'm from Kansas, and not far from the Missouri border! I first heard about it from my dad, who spends a lot of his time perusing new car news, he sent me an article a couple days after it was announced, didn't take me long to build my own and reserve one. Even with getting on it so early i'm just about to take delivery of mine (supposed to be this week). Have you seen any in the wild? I've only seen one of them and that was passing it on the interstate.

I've been wanting a truck for a few years but wanted something that would actually fit in my garage. Previously, this left me looking toward the Colorado, Tacoma, or Ranger but the cost was out of my budget. I was actually researching the Santa Cruz online when I came across the Maverick. I had never heard or read anything about Ford developing such vehicle. I was hooked immediately...

As a Ford retiree I usually try to keep up with what may be a new offering. I do not get to visit the prototype build areas any more so its all on line.
Although I may know of a secret entrance or 2 usually not that important.

I'm not much of a car guy. I was driving one day and saw a cute small truck with "Maverick" on the tailgate. Since my 1989 small Toyota truck was near the end of its life, I started looking up Mavericks. Liked what I saw. Bought one...

The wife. Queen of searching the internet. I wanted a replacement for my destroyed Chevy Colorado, so it had to be small and towable. Maverick had just went on the market and the wife liked it. After looking at it, so did I. Very fortunate to get one from a dealer within a week and have been very happy with it since.

Google knows I’m into cars so my news feed is regularly filled with articles from automotive journals. I saw the headlines about it but never bothered to actually look. Then my cousin messaged me to ask if I had heard about it. I told him it will probably end up being a goofy oddball vehicle like the Chevy avalanche and Ford Explorer sport trac. He was like “no, no, no, you should look into it. It’s going to be a hybrid and it’s cheap as hell.” So I actually looked into the maverick beyond the headlines and was immediately on board. Small truck, cheap, hybrid mpg, good weight capacity. It checked all the boxes I was looking for after driving an F150 for the last two years which doesn’t fit in my garage and gets crap gas mileage. Rides comfy as hell but that’s all it does well. I don’t have a boat or camper to tow and the bed is usually used for camping gear, hunting gear, luggage or yard equipment, none of which require a half ton pickup.
You have stated the exact reasons why the Maverick is such a big hit with so many different consumers. It just does everything so well for 90% of those who need a truck.
