I did put premium in my 2011 3.5 F150 during the pandemic when it was cheaper. Think I got 1 or 2 mpg better. Was not worth the extra 50 cent per gallon

Never herd of it either. Maybe it's e15. More ethanol higher octane but less mpg.
They call it racing gas here in the south .

Ethanol free gas ,will have a blue handle at the pumps . Go to website Puregas.com to find it near you.
Not every station has it. The closest one to me is 25 miles. Drive past it 3 or 4 times a week. It is the only fuel I use in my mower , pressure washer, string trimmer. All run better.
I would love to buy that for my small engines! It just isn't available here in Commiefornia.
I do use Sta-bil and it seems to work well to keep it from spoiling and plugging up small carb jets.

I have been using regular has in my awd Mav since I got it. I was wondering if I filled an empty tank with premium if I would notice any difference. Or would it take a few tankfulls. Thanks
Just as a test I filled up with 93. At 87 my mileage was up to 40 MPH, with the same driving on 97 I went as high as 52 MPH.

Over the years any time I use 87 my vehicles don't like it. Sure they will run but I notice a little lower mpg and the engine will ping when the weather warms up. Just by switching to 89 fixes the issue. Personally I will never run 87.
If your engine is pinging using the recommended 87 octane fuel you have other problems. The knock sensor specifically will pull back timing so that it won’t ping.

1000's of ECOboost owners have posted there is no difference except at high or wide open throttle.

So it's up to you and your driving style.
This is factually incorrect.

Not saying my Maverick was pining but other vehicles I have owned would with 87 on hard acceleration. My Maverick though does seem to run better with 89 in the warmer months.

I didn't feel the difference between 87 and 91 with stock tires. That doesn't mean there isn't a difference, because there definitely is logically.

But I definitely felt the difference of that 10 hp/whatever torque increase there is with premium with my heavier ATs, especially when it's hot outside.

87 to 91 (or 93) is about 20-25hp and roughly same about of ft/lb torque

You're not going to find consensus here, just a lot of conjecture.

It is most important to use Top Tier fuel more than the grade. 87 top tier and your EB will run fine, albeit with less power - it is mapped for 91 octane to achieve the stated power rating. 87 will give you around a 10% loss in power.

It does not improve fuel economy to go from 87 to 93.

Butt dyno might not tell you the power increase, but it is real - approximately . 5 seconds 0-60.

YMMV. I fill with 93 from Costco exclusively (switched from Shell).

I posted this in another thread a while ago, but those of you touting one particular brand of gas for being better than some others may be unaware that the gas you’re pumping from that brand’s pumps may not be what you think it is. When I pumped gas back in the day, we used to get deliveries from that (national) brand’s tanker trucks regularly. But we often got deliveries from local, no-name tanker trucks. So what we were pumping on any given day was anyone’s guess. Buyer beware! You are not getting what you think you’re getting. :sneaky:

Same thoughts here in Utah @ Elevation. With larger tires and such I need them extra ponies that 91 provides.

I run 91 octane E-Free and I am getting an improvement of 5 mpg around town from 21.1 to 25.3. On a trip and improvement from 30 to 36. Engine runs noticeably smoother with no low RPM lugging I was getting with 87 octane. No idea how much of a power increase but suffice to say I have noticed the engine pulling and feeling stronger under mild acceleration. I have yet to do a hard acceleration aka "flooring it". I tend to drive conservatively and not be in a hurry.

Some say it does not improve fuel economy going to high octane gas but running E-Free gas will give you better mileage and is better for your engine which is an unmatched quality.
